My head shot up as I heard a too familar voice speak up from the corner of the room.
It was the last person I wanted to see.
Harry.
"What are you doing here?" I bellowed. Harry snorted.
"Why'd you leave?"
"You can't tell me what to do. You're not my dad." Harry laughed again.
"Yeah, but he is." Harry pointed to the right, where my 'Dad' sat, tied up and a hankerchief tied around his mouth.
"DAD!" I shrieked and ran over to him. Teary eyed, I looked long and hard at him. He looked nothing like me. I laughed at Harry.
"He's not my Dad. He looks nothing like me." I snickered,
"Really? Zach, tell her." He whipped the hankerchief off of his mouth.
"HADLEY!" My 'Dad' called. I scoffed and turned away from him.
"Hadley, it's really me."
"IF IT'S YOU WHY DIDN'T YOU VISIT ME IN THE HOSPITAL? HUH? WERE YOU TOO BUSY FOR YOUR INJURED AND MENTAL DAUGHTER? HUH? WHERE WERE YOU? DO YOU JUST EXPECT ME TO FORGIVE YOU RIGHT NOW? WELL I'M NOT." I was crying and so was my 'Dad'.
"Hadley I'm so sorry. I couldn't make time for it."
"Well now I can't make time for you." I spun around and ran, to, literally the only place I knew. The Hospital. I ran into the automatic sliding doors and ran to the front desk.
"I'M LOOKING FOR A ROMAN HARRIS!" I screamed. The Nurse looked startled.
"R-Roman Harris? Room C-13, three floors up and to your right." The Nurse smiled and I thanked her multiple times. Running up the various staircases, I finally made my way to C-13. Taking a deep breath, I knocked on the door. It creaked open, and a bleached blonde with light hazel-green eyes opened the door.
"OH MY GOD HADLEY!" She embraced me in a tight hug, making my giggle.
"Hi Roman."
"Where'd you go? You just kinda disappeared one day, and we never really talked, and I missed you! I kinda got worried and-"
"Haha, Roman, it's okay! I, uh, had family issues..." I quickly lied and I could feel a blush creeping up on my cheeks.
"It's okay. So, why'd you come back?"
"I, uh, need your help with something."
"Sure, what is it?"
After explaining everything- and I mean everything to Roman, she was in tears.
"And I need you to help me find either my Dad, or a new home." I barely mustered. Roman wiped her eyes.
"O-Of course." She smiled. I beamed back at her.
"You don't know how much this means to me, Roman." I hummed, which just earned another smile from Roman.
"So... Who exactly is your Dad?" Roman asked with a questionable tone.
"YOU AREN'T MINE." He finally yelled. What? My Mom cheated on him? This took me a moment to process, but as soon as it finally crossed my mind, I glared at him.
"SO THAT GIVES YOU THE RIGHT TO BEAT ME? TO TELL ME YOU NEVER LOVED ME? TO TELL ME I SHOULD BE DEAD? WHAT THE HELL! GODDAMNIT I DESERVED A CHILDHOOD BUT I WAS AFRAID OF YOU? DON'T YOU UNDERSTAND? I WAS SCARED OF MY OWN SO CALLED 'DAD'. WHY DID YOU DO THIS? YOU'RE A DISGUSTING MONSTER AND WHEN I HAVE KIDS YOU ARE FORBIDDEN TO SEE THEM. I DON'T WANT A SICK ASS MONSTER AROUND THEM!" His face fell. Good. He deserved it.
This flashback flooded into my mind and I cringed. No wonder the man sitting on the floor didn't look anything like me. He wasn't my real Dad, but he had been there, even though he most likely didn't want to. Tears pricked my eyes and I was out of the Hospital room, leaving a confused Roman behind me.
"CATCHA LATER, HADLEY!" She had called after me. I grinned to myself. She could keep a good attitude in a crappy situation. I clattered down the stairs and out of the large building. As I started to trot out of the Hospital, I stopped to catch my breath. Man was I out of shape. I continued running down the street until I got home, to find the door wide open, and nobody inside. I cursed to myself and looked around, hoping for a bus, taxi, or Harry's car. No luck for any of them. Just as I was about to fuss- I felt a giant cloth-bag-sack thing cover my body. I tried kicking and screaming, but no help came. Didn't people go outside? I was being thrown, probably, into a car. I could guess who did this, too.
Harry.
The bag ripped off of my head and revealed a man.
Not Harry.
"We need to save your Dad." The boy said. I was confused.
"And who exactly are you?" I snarled.
"Cody. Cody Johnston." The name rung a bell, but I couldn't place a memory to it. He sighed.
"You talked to me once in the Hospital and I ignored you. I saw your Dad being taken by that jerk Harry. We need to go save him." My mind was racing.
"Wait, so you're on my side?" I asked.
"Yeah. I'm sorry for 'kidnapping' you. Roman told me everything and I didn't want to scare you." He clamped his hand over his mouth.
"Oops." He mumbled. My mouth fell open. Roman did this? Tears dotted my cheeks as Cody pulled me into a hug.
"We'll find him. Don't worry."
"And how do you know?" I hiccuped.
"Well, I'm a big computer nerd, right? Soooo.... I placed a tracker on Harry's car. I know exactly where he is at the moment." A smile took over Cody's face as I bear hugged him.
"Now let's go." He turned into the driver's seat and pulled out of park.
I knew I could count on Roman.
Pulling into the same driveway that I spent who knows how long in, I cringed.
"How will we get in? What if we get caught? What if he kills both of us? What if he already killed my Dad?" I started panicking again.
"It'll be okay. I promise." He opened the car door and we both stepped out. Harry's car wasn't in the driveway, so maybe that was a good sign. Bravely walking up to the door, I twisted the bronze handle open. Inhaling quietly I stepped inside. It was empty. I ushered Cody to the stairwell that leads to the basement. Slowly creeping down the stairs, I could see my Dad curled up in the corner. The most miserable I've ever seen him. It made my heart sink.
"Dad. Psst. Dad. It's okay. We're here now." I whispered. His head popped up and he smiled the first smile I've ever seen on him. It made me feel amazing.
"Now let's get you-"
"HOW DARE YOU?!"
