Chapter Twenty-Two

"Cody what's wrong?!" I half shouted and half cried.

"Harry... He... He..."

"SPIT IT OUT!"

"HE KILLED YOUR FAMILY!" Cody shrieked. I froze and let go of his arm.

"WHAT?!" I shrieked back. Harry couldn't have killed my family.

"HARRY KILLED MY FAMILY?!" I confirmed, hoping that he would smile, and say 'just kidding'. Cody shook his head. Thank God.

"It wasn't Harry. He hired a guy to do it. A guy named Luke Hemmings to be precise. We can leave if you want to." I stared Cody straight in the eye. I didn't want to leave. I wanted answers from Harry, and explinations from Luke. Who was Luke, anyway?

"No. We have to stay here-"

"WITH A MURDERER? HADLEY ARE YOU CRAZY?!" Cody screamed.

"CODY CALM DOWN! I NEED ANSWERS FROM HARRY! AND WE NEED TO FIND THIS LUKE PERSON! HE'S NOT GOING TO KILL US!" I screamed back. Cody sighed.

"I'm not going to  let anything happen to you." He whispered and I scoffed.

"A little late, Romeo." I stated. He bit his lip.

"I'm sorry, Hadley. I didn't know what was happening until Romy told me. I knew something was off with that Harry kid but I didn't fully believe it, and now I'm living with him." He chuckled. Plopping down on the couch I groaned. I wanted to go home, back to Nick, but not with her there. She made my life hell.

"Look, Harry'll be back soon. Do you have a plan?" Cody looked nervously around the room and I sighed.

I did.

"Yep. I do. Okay. Here's the plan..."

Twenty minutes later we both had the plan down pat, just as Harry walked in, bloody nose and lips and cracked knuckles.

"Hadley go into the spare room. Now." Harry growled and I scampered away and into the room. Locking the door and pacing the room, I got really scared. What was Harry going to do to Cody? Did Harry find out about the plan? Will he kill the both of us? Questions raced my mind, but couldn't be answered due to the fact that

a) I was locked in a room

b) No noise could be heard from the living room

Crap.

Finally sitting down on the bed, I noticed a window. Wow. I needed to pay more attention to things. Carefully walking over to it, I realized we were only on the first story, I could easily slip out of the window and run to start a new life.

Well, whatever works.

Sliding open the window I slung my legs over and hopped over, carefully sliding the window closed. Sneaking around to the back of the apartment building, I took off.

I was finally free.

I didn't care about Cody at this point, I was more worried about myself. Rounding the back alley, I came across a car.

A black car with tinted windows.

It was parked sideways, so it was blocking the whole back lane.

Shit.

The window of the drivers side rolled down, showing a tall- very tall- blonde with bright blue eyes and red cheeks.

"Sweet cheeks! Get in the car and no one gets hurt? A'ight?" He smiled. He had a thick Australian accent, and I panicked. Who was this?

"No. Go away." I spoke confidently. His smile grew and he cackled.

"I'm not asking you, I'm telling you. Get in the car. Now." His voice was strict, but he didn't really intimidate me.

"And I TOLD you, no. Go pick on another innocent girl."

"Oh but darling, you're not innocent."

What?

"Excuse me?" I snarled.

"Get in the car!"

"NO!"

"I HAVE A GUN!"

"THEN SHOOT ME! PUT ME OUT OF MY MISERY!" I cried and he looked shocked.

"GO AHEAD! SHOOT ME! I DON'T CARE!" I shrieked at him. He glanced down and I saw him gulp.

"Just, please, get in the car." His voice cracked, and at this point I wasn't necessarily scared of him. I stepped closer to the car, and leant on the open window.

"No. I don't know you, so I'm not getting in the car." I smiled a fake smile and he looked at me.

"Please. I will explain everything later, just please get in the car. I swear I won't hurt you. I was bluffing about the gun. Please. You can even sit up front, just please." His voice was soft and quivering, so I rounded the corner and got into the car, but didn't buckle in, and made sure the door stayed un locked.

"So, explain please. Who exactly are you?" I asked.

"I am Luke Hemmings." He said. I screamed and he slammed on the brakes.

"WHAT?! WHAT'S WRONG?!" He cried.

"YOU KILLED MY FAMILY!" I shrieked and he grabbed my arm.

"What? I killed who?"

"M-My family." I whimpered.

"I did NOT kill anybody. Who told you?" He huskily growled.

"H-Harry."

"That DOUCHE?! I DID NOT KILL ANYONE!" He screamed. He glanced at me and grabbed my hand.

"I swear on my life I haven't killed anyone. That sick minded douche kills everyone! Who's your family?"

"Sevonna, Meadow, and my Mum, Noelle." I stuttered while tears fell down my cheeks. Luke shook his head.

"He killed them so he could be only one you have. He would've killed your Dad and Nick, er, Zach and your Dad, I don't know, but then he couldn't find them, but then he got on his meds, but hon, I promise you I did not kill them. I'm a good guy. I'm just lose friends with him, and when he told me about you, I decided it should be my duty to take you out of your misery." Luke smiled and I felt like I could trust him.

"A-Are you telling the truth?" I whispered.

"Yes. I swear." Luke rubbed my hand and I cried even more.

"Where are we going?"

"Back to my place. You can chill there for a while if you want. Oh, but I have three roommates, Michael, Calum and Ashton. They're all cool. Ashton will protect you." He laughed, and I chuckled through my tears.

"Okay." I smiled.

The ride to Luke's house was quite long, but at least I knew I was far away from Harry, and that's the only thing that mattered.
