She was hiding

Her tail flicking back and forth

Fish scales travelling up her skin

Like green flecked tiles on canvas cream.

Her eyes were trained upwards

Watching the silhouette of a ship

Sailing over calm waters

Unaware of sailors'

Soon to be slaughter.

A sneer curled her pretty lips

Her raven locks dancing

Off her shoulders

Like serpents swaying

Awaiting orders.

She turned to her sisters

All blue eyed and dark haired

All one with the sea and tides

And she nodded.

They broke the barrier between ocean and air

Salt clinging to their cheeks

Their lips parted

All at once.

Singing softly

Beckoning slightly,

Haunting serenades

Hung in the sky.

And the ship did not move

And sailors did not sail

Instead throwing themselves

Overboard

Ready to die.

She grabbed one sailor

A man so frightened

And caught him with her gaze.

He made no more movement

As she kissed

Kissed him and plunged

Deeper into cold water's embrace.
