jaeden's p.o.v —

i gathered all the supplies i needed to glue the pieces of paper. first of all, i laid them out on my bed, scanning each one. it was like a jigsaw (peep billy the puppet) puzzle.

it didn't take too long to join them together without glueing. i placed them in the same spots on a blank piece of paper and glued them onto it.

i smiled softly. he's very talented.

my smile faltered when i remembered he ripped it up. gaten must've said something.

my hand reached for my phone on my desk, but there was a loud knock on the door. "jaeden wesley! get your ass [is grass] downstairs, we have visitors."

i rolled my eyes. "coming!"

i stood up and stared at myself in the mirror. i tried to ignore the chant going on in my head. i look presentable... right? shaking my head, i opened the door and hesitantly walked downstairs. my dad was seated at the dining table with sophia, her twin brother and her mum. sophia smiled at me and i smiled back, sitting next to her. my dad looked at me sternly. "we have something to tell you."

i frowned. "what's up?"

he looked at juliana, sophia's mother. she took a deep breath and spoke. "you see, these last few months, your father and i have been... seeing each other. we didn't tell you because we were nervous and didn't know how you were going to react. but, yeah, that's it. we're together." she smiled lovingly at my father.

i wanted to puke. she had no idea what she was getting herself into. my dad has fucking anger issues, for christ's sake. he's abusive.

i swallowed a lump that started to form in my throat when i looked at sophia. i didn't want her, or anyone from her family, to get hurt. especially by my dad.

"jaeden, sweetie, are you okay?" juliana caught my attention. i looked at sophia, tears filling my eyes. worry was immediately drawn all over her face. i got up and ran upstairs, my heart racing.

you may thing i'm overreacting. i probably am. but i just can't deal with this. i love sophia's mum, she's amazing, but she could never replace my real mum, no matter how hard she tried.

— third person —

"i'll go check on him." sophia quickly stood up and pushed her chair in, then sprinted to his room. she knocked on the door lightly. "jae?"

"sophia? is that you?"

"yeah, it's me." she smiled to herself. she heard footsteps, and the door opened, revealing jaeden. his cheeks were tear-stained and his hair was a mess. it was obvious that he'd been wiping his eyes using his shirt.
