recap: long story short; wyatt hopped on the plane.

— two weeks later —

"yo, wyatt. 'bout time." chris approached wyatt as the boy walked into the takeaway restaurant. "thought i was gonna die of old age."

wyatt rolled his eyes, chuckling. "i'm only 10 minutes late for my shift, dipshit." he entered the kitchen that consisted of mostly teenagers from local high schools. he knew some of them, as they attended his school, but none he was friends with. chosen worked as a carpenter apprentice, and jeremy wasn't allowed to work yet. his mother was overprotective.

"so, any updates on the coma boy?" chris asked, standing next to wyatt as he cooked one of the meals from the screen. wyatt shook his head sadly.

chris was finished his shift, and the manager surprisingly allowed him to stick around the kitchen. "i'm sorry, dude." he spoke sincerely.

wyatt scoffed, not rudely, but it wasn't pleasant either. it was like 'fuck off, i don't wanna hear it'. "please, don't say sorry. that's all anyone does."

"sor—" chris stopped. "i mean, okay. i won't."

sydnie approached wyatt. "hey, we're swapping. you're taking meal orders."

"okay." wyatt looked at chris, as if saying 'i'll see you later'. chris waved, and left the kitchen.

wyatt walked into the tiny room, if you could call it that, and placed the headphones on his head. "place your order when you're ready." he said into the mic.

the person at the drive-thru told him what they wanted.

"that'll be $12.75. is that all for today?"

after a few more word exchanges, they drove to his window and paid.

and repeat, until 4:30pm, when his shift ended. he then took the bus home, got changed, did his night routine, and slept. that's all he'd been doing for the past 2 weeks, other than going to school.

chris was a new kid at school, and sydnie was just some girl from grade 12 [i'm australian so i don't understand the whole 'juniors, seniors, sophomores, freshmen' crap😂]. chris had befriended wyatt, along with chosen and jeremy.

wyatt was frequently talking to sophia, jack, corbyn, and daniel. he missed them all.

— the next day —

"since when are you punctual?" chosen joked when he spotted wyatt. wyatt laughed and opened his locker. "i don't know. i'm in a good mood, for some reason."

"well, that's good. i'm happy for you." chosen patted his back, smiling. wyatt grabbed what he needed for first period and closed his locker. as if on cue, the bell rung for class. the two boys walked to where they were supposed to be and entered the classroom. everyone was still piling in and choosing where to sit. wyatt and chosen sat in the back row, next to each other. eventually, the lesson started, and wyatt dozed off halfway through.

— after school; when wyatt gets home —

wyatt entered his bedroom, throwing his bag on his bed and closing the door. wyatt groaned when his phone started ringing, and he pulled it out of his pocket. jack. of course, he answered the call. "yo, jack. what's up?" he sat down on his bed, putting the phone on speaker as he rummaged through his bag, looking for his homework.
