❝Sometimes our lives have to be completely shaken up, changed and rearranged to relocate us to the place we're meant to be.❞

"Can you believe that high school is over?" Mason said.
"Yeah, it felt like we just started yesterday," I told my best friend. Mason and I have known each other since we could barely walk. Our Korean mothers met at church, we lived a couple of houses apart from each other. Ever since our mothers became friends, so did we. Mason was a few days older than me, 10 days to be exact. He insisted on me calling him 'oppa', which is a term used to call an older male. I refused of course since he was only 10 days older than me. He would taunt me if I ever let it slip and accidentally call him that.
"Can't believe we made it through high school in one piece," Mason said and looks over at me. I give him a glance over and give him a 'are you sure?' face, my eyes motioning towards his arm which was in a cast and sling.
"You know what I mean," he teased. "We will be starting a new chapter of our lives soon."
"Yeah, university, a whole other world," I commented.
"I'm glad that we got accepted into the same one, I don't know how I would manage if my best friend wasn't with me," he confessed in a serious tone. I looked over at him and saw that he was already looking at me. His eyes were glassy and full of emotion.
"Me too," I said, grabbing Mason's hands to give it a tight squeeze.
"Are you sure that you don't want to rent an apartment with me?" he asked. I dropped his hands down from mine. We were not having this conversation again. Mason had previously asked me to be his roommate during university, but my mother refused to let that happen. She didn't want me to be living alone with a boy, even if that boy was Mason. She got this crazy idea that Mason was in love with me. I reassured her that Mason was only my friend and that nothing would happen between us. Nothing romantic at least.
However, she wouldn't believe me and enrolled me in the university's dorms. I was going to share a room was some stranger, and apparently, that's a better option than sharing an apartment with Mason, a friend that I have known all my life.
"Yeah, I'm sure. I already told you that my mum enrolled me to live in the dorms," I said in defeat.
"Yeah, I just thought maybe she changed her mind," he said quietly.
"You know my mother, she is as stubborn as a mule," I joked. We both laughed, knowing that was the truth. Once my mum made a decision, there was no going back. She was the human personification of a stick in a mud.
