"Mum I'm fine," I said, holding the phone between my ear and shoulder, trying to hold get my luggage into the room. "I just arrived, yeah... I'm in my room right now. Okay, I'll talk to you later."
I end the call with my mother and carried the rest of my luggage into my room. I placed my bag pack on my bed, finally, I have finished my lugging everything into my new dorm. I sat on my unmade bed, still naked without any bedsheet cover. My eyes scanned across the room, and over to the other side of the room where my future roommate's bed was.
The dorm room I was enrolled in was the type that came with a roommate, this was one of the cheaper options. I would've preferred my own room, but money was tight at the moment. Ever since the break-in, everything has not gone our way. Trouble was around every corner. Since my father was missing, my mother was the only one bringing money in. We had to cut down on a few luxuries.
After taking a break for a few minutes sitting on my bed, I pulled out my phone and decide to call my best friend, Mason Kang. Mason and I have been friends since we could barely walk. Our mothers were friends through church. Mason's family helped us a lot after the break-in, especially since my father went missing. We didn't tell them any of the details, the details concerning the dodgy ex-business partners that my parents were involved with. All Mason's family know is that my father is missing, probably run away, for some unknown reason. We tried to avoid that conversation when we are around them. It was difficult lying to Mason, but it had to be done. We don't know who we can trust at this stage, especially since there was another party involved, the ones that stole the important documents.
I scrolled through my contact list and found Mason's contact. I pressed the call button. He picked up after two rings, I swear that boy is always glued to his phone. "Hey, Mason. I've moved into the dorm," I said.
"Hey, that's great. Do you know who your roommate is yet?" he asked, it sounded like he was munching on some potato chips. That was another thing he was glued to, snacks.
"Nope, I haven't. I don't think they have arrived yet. Their side of the room is still empty," I said, looking across the empty room.
"Oh, they will probably come later this week," he said, through more mouthful of potato chips. Everyone was moving into the dorms this week, I chose to move in earlier in the week to have a browse through the area, get to know where everything is before classes officially start next week. I got my class schedule already and I plan to have a look where my classes are later today.
"Yeah, I am always an early bird," I laughed. Mason laughed on the other side of the line.
"Yeah, you are. Remember the time when we arrived at a party 30 minutes early? There was no one there. The party wasn't even set up. That was so awkward," he reminisced. I remember that party, it was this popular girl that went to our high school. She invited everyone at school to her house, it was a mansion. We arrived a bit early and she didn't exactly know who we were since she invited the entire school.
