"Andrei," I repeated. The name felt unusual on my tongue, I haven't met an Andrei before. It sounded foreign in a way. I got to admit, it was a lovely name. A name that suited the person in front of me. I sat back down on my bed, located on the opposite side of the big shared room. Suddenly, it just occurred to me that there isn't a wall that separates us. Our beds and desks were all out in the same room, no wall in between. The only other room that was separated from the main room was the bathroom. I cringe at the inconveniences that I imagine will occur when being roommates with a guy. I will need to head to the bathroom, every time I want to change clothes, rather than just freely changing next to my bed.

Once our awkward introductions were over, I dug my laptop out of my bag pack. I opened my laptop, connected to the dorm's wifi and looked at my emails. I decided it was time to have a look at a map of the campus grounds, making note of where my classes are. As soon as I was about to close my laptop came an incoming Skype call. I quickly grabbed my earphones and plugged it into my laptop. I accepted the call and see my mother.

"Hey, darling," she said. "Have you settled in your dorm yet?"

I looked around the room at my luggage, still yet to unpack, and my new roommate across the room. My attention quickly went back to my mother in the video call. "Yes, everything is great," I said trying to sound as nonchalant as possible. Trying to hide the fact that my roommate was indeed someone of the opposite sex. If my mother found out, she would fly all the way out here just to pull me out by my ear, out of this room.

"Have you meet your roommate yet?" she asked. I saw this question coming from a mile away. My mother was always strict on the people I associated with. The groups that I would mingle with. She was very cautious of the influence that others' may have on me, particularly bad influences. My mother would make me drop anyone that seemed to be a bad influence or a distraction from my school work. Let's just say, from these... interventions of hers', my social circle isn't that big. Putting it generously.

"Yes, actually. She's great. From the looks of it, she seems to be very studious like me. She's also from a Christian family as well, they attend church regularly," I lied through my teeth. This would please my mother and hopefully have her drop the topic.

"That is great, sweetheart! I was worried that your roommate was going to be some crazed-up party animal with a drug or alcohol problem," she confessed. She laughed in relief. I tried to let out a fake laugh as well, trying to make it seem like I was also glad.

What she said next made my heart drop.

"Can I meet the roommate, get her on this video call. I want to say hello," she said. Oh, gosh. I'm in some shit. Deep shit.
