Nya's POV
A couple of months have passed ever since this.. 'meeting' and so far, they have been some of the greatest months of my life. Catching up with Jay, although kind of awkward, was a really fun experience and we even ended up becoming great friends.
It turns out we had a lot of common interests too -along with engineering-, like favorite TV shows, books, etc. It turns out he doesn't even have his string too! It was more like it was cut off, as he described it. That ended up in me trying to set him up on a couple of dates, which I may or may not have stalked.
It is the end of November right now and everything is going perfectly. College has been pretty easy ever since I got that small tutoring from overhearing Jay's math class through the door. I'm starting to think that the stalker habits might have influenced me too. I guess we hang out way too much.
Christmas was also coming up next month and I want to make it special. Seliel, also a new friend of mine, invited me to her Christmas party, which allowed me to bring friends along. Skylor was obviously going there, since she wouldn't miss a chance to meet this 'stalker' I've been talking about. Jay is already invited as he's known her for a couple of years now, so he's bringing his friends with him as well, one of them being Zane and Pixal.
Who would have guessed that a ten minute talk could have changed your life?
Though now I have to try and break the silence a bit..
"So.. why are you so embarrassed about this?" I questioned, facing Jay. We had plans for us to help at the bake sale his school was having to raise money for charity, but he needed to get some stuff from his parents' house. He told me that it's best to not come, but I managed to convince him at the end. That didn't didn't take away his stress though.
"Uh, are you sure you don't want me to drive?" He awkwardly tried to change the subject. Well, it was true that I was driving his car, but it was the only way for me to trust him with our destination.
I raised my eyebrow and glared. That may have scared him a bit, but he took a deep breath and admitted.
"Well, it's just that my parents are a bit.. talkative." He chuckled. I giggled a bit. Must run in the family. "And.. they are also a bit straight forward. And also a bit.. embarrassing.." He lowered his head. He looked at me sad when I started giggling again."Have you seen my parents? Trust me, no matter how bad you say your parents might be, my parents will always embarrass me more. Also, remember, I have met them. I'm sure they are still the kind people I slightly remember." At least that cheered him up a bit. "I guess you're right.. I shouldn't worry too much about it.." He sighed and we slightly smiled at each other.
Once we arrived, it was a bit empty. Sure, it was an old junkyard, so you'd expect that there would be more noises around, but nope. Silence.
We were about to talk when we heard an explosion, which almost made us fall. We ran over to find a somewhat old man covered in charcoal coughing on the ground."Are you okay sir?!" I exclaimed, coughing up a bit from the smoke as well. He saw Jay and smiled. We helped him up and started heading inside without a word being said.
Arriving inside, we saw a somewhat elderly woman cooking lunch. When she saw us she slightly gasped.
"Oh my, Ed! What happened to ya?!" She sat down as her as I assumed husband explained everything. It was just another one of his inventions, as he said. I'm surprised she didn't hear the explosion though. We were kind of standing awkwardly there this whole time, when they finally noticed us."Oh! I'm sorry!" The woman said shaking my hand. "I didn't even notice ya Jay!" She turned her head towards him. "And it looks like you brought a friend with ya as well!" She then turned towards me, to which I smiled. I could sense Jay mentally face palming and I couldn't help but giggle a bit.
He sighed and started talking. "Nya, these are my parents, Ed and Edna." He introduced me. Now that I took a closer look at them I realized that they've got pretty old. And I didn't remember Edna wearing glasses. I waved once again. "Wait, Ray and Maya's child? Oh you are so beautiful! Look at how much you've grown!" Edna exclaimed pulling me into a tight hug. "It's nice to see that ya got back in contact with us. By the way, how's your family been doing?" Ed then asked me, an obvious excuse to try and free me from the hug before I run out of oxygen.
"Oh, they've been doing great. In fact Kai is graduating college in a few months." I smiled, remembering my brother's face when he got accepted in his dream school. "That's lovely! Why don't we sit down and catch up?" Edna offered me. I really wanted to say yes, but Jay stopped me before I even got to talk.
"Uh, it's okay Ma. Maybe another time. I just wanted your recipes." Oh, so that's why we came here, I see. They lowered their heads down, but soon smiled. "Well, at least you didn't forget your cooking habits from hanging around Cole." Ed chuckled. Edna then went and opened some drawers which had some old recipes. It was the usual like cakes, brownies, cupcakes, etc. We thanked them and went on our way. "Such a lovely girl, isn't she?" I could hear Edna whisper to her husband, making me blush a bit. I hesitated to say something so we just went on our way, with Jay driving this time.
We chose to go to my apartment, because it was 'the cleaner one', as Jay said. We set the ingredients we had bought on the counter and chose the sweets we'd be bringing. We chose to make cupcakes, as it was the fastest -and cheaper- one to make. We followed the instructions carefully and lived in peace. Well, until the frosting part came in, that is.
And now, my ultimate scene to imagine your OTP/best friends..
"Hey!" Jay exclaimed, whipping the frosting I 'accidentally' threw on his face. "Well, it's pretty tasty, I'll give you that." He said tasting it from his cheeks. I was giggling my head off until, he smirked. I'm about to die..
He picked up some sugar with his hands and three it to my face, making me paler than Snow White."Oh it's on, freckled-creep." I grinned. Yeah, I still kept the nickname, he actually likes it for some reason. "You bet it is." He smirked. Pouring flour onto each other wasn't the best thing for my kitchen, but war isn't over yet. We went so far as to crack eggs on each other. Eggs! When, the war was, somewhat over, the cupcakes had been made, but it looked like we were trying to bring them to life, considering the mess the kitchen was.
We suddenly remembered we had to actually go to the bake sale. We went to the school as fast as we could, without even changing. We just took the cupcakes and left.
We quickly went on our stand and set everything. But the worst thing we had to deal with was the principle.
"Jay?! What in the Underworld happened to you?!" Mr. Garmadon asked us, impatiently waiting for an explanation. We looked at each other and realized we still were in our casual clothing, covered in every single ingredient of the cupcakes. Even the kids were giving us weird looks. "Look, I know that getting a girlfriend is fun, but please, try to contain yourselves.." He sighed. We both quickly took a step back and started nervously laughing."Us? Dating? Pfftt, no way." We continued this utill he finally left. Moments after that, a kid in a black skeleton like hoodie came in front of us. "Do you wanna buy some candy?" He said in a creppy toned voice. We looked at him as if he was an evil mastermind as he handed us some chocolate bars. Well, what did we have to lose? "Uh, sure?" Jay hesitated, but eventually gave him money. Then, the biggest smile appeared on his face.
"Thank you, thank you, thank you! Starfarer comics, prepare to be bought!" He laughed and hopped around while he grabbed his mom's hand and started walking towards the exit. "Garmadon's son." Jay whispered. "He's a fanboy and ace at math. For the most part.." He raised his shoulders. We both kinda laughed at that as more parents and kids came to buy out cupcakes, ignoring our appearences. Well, I would say that this went a lot better than expected.
Phew! This may be the longest chapter I've ever written! Anyways, I really wanted to have an Ed/Edna meeting, because I just love them!
Now I shall get back to day dreaming my future books!
C ya!
