-Jake's Point of View-
The hours of sitting at the Lock's house past slowly. Most of what I remember is tears and tissues. There were photo albums filled with pictures of Josh's life. His first car, his high school graduation, the first time he went to beach, his prom. Eventually the pictures just started to all look the same.
Around 5 o'clock Jennica just stopped crying. Not another tear would fall, she just sat there with shaky hands looking at the ground in front of her. Her normally bright eyes were red and puffy. Her dark eyeliner had started to make it's way down to her jaw line. Mrs. Lock didn't look too good either. Her make up, which had been running for much longer than Jennica's, was completely wiped away. Most of it was on the mountain of tissues in front of her, the rest was in her hair and on her blouse.
Laurie is not much of a people person, in fact on her resume it said, 'I hate people. But I really like money.'. So while all of this crying and flipping through albums was happening, She sat next to me on the couch and stared blankly at the door.
She did this until around 8 when she stood up calmly, straighting out her skirt, "I just remembered, my mom is coming over for dinner tonight." She snapped her head over to glare in my direction.
I sigh and stand up, "I should get you home then."
Jennica and Erica both look up at me from the small black framed picture of Josh sitting in front of them.
"Alright." Jennica says quietly after clearing her throat and standing up shakily. Jennica is very pretty. She has straight blond hair that ends just below her jawline. And her eyes are to die for, Hazel with fleckes of green. And I would date her if it weren't for a couple things.
1. Her current boyfriend is a quarterback in the NFL. 2. She is a Lock. 3. I am desperately in love with Taylor Loyn.
"If you need anything, anything at all. Just call me." I say looking between both of the Lock women calmly. Giving them my classic smile, but keeping a hint of sadness in my eyes at the same time.
"Thank you Jake." Erica says hiccuping and rubbing her eye with tip of her fingers.
"Anytime." I say walking towards the door, Laurie walking in front of me.
"Jake wait!" I hear Jennica say as she walks towards me.
"Laurie, I'll meet you outside" I say before putting on another smile and turning back to Jennica.
"So this might seem forward, but would you maybe want to get a drink with me?" She asks looking up at me with hopeful eyes.
I pause and look back into her eyes, "Jennica, I can't. I'm really sorry but I should get home."
She nods and walks backwards towards the living room again, "No it's fine."
"Good night." I say and open the door and step outside into the cool breeze. As soon as I get outside I hear music blasting from my car. I slip my hand into my jean pocket walking slowly towards my car. I take out the key and step inside turning the volume down, Laurie's jaw drops as she looks over at me.
"What the hell Jake? I was listening to that!" I says trying to turn it back up, but instinctively I block it with my hand.
"Well can we listen to it quietly?"
"Fine." She says turning away and looking out the window
"You know if you don't talk to me, then you can't go home to dinner with your mom." I say smirking at her
"Shut up Barlowe. I can't stand seeing people cry." I says looking back over at me.
"I can't either but I am a nice human being who does nice things, like comfort my clients when they are sad."
