"Honey are you sure you want to leave so soon" my mom said as I pack my bag.
"Yes mom. I'll be fine I have Maddox." I say smiling.
Maddox bought the plane tickets to head back to New York this morning. I told him to buy them for tomorrow so I could show him around my home town before we go.
We stop at my favorite coffee shop down the rode. I tell him about all my old hang out spots. The old skatepark that I used to go to in high school is still there. My old dance studio moved to a bigger building. The old shopping mall closed down. I've missed this. Everything is different yet the same. I look over at Maddox as we walk down the sidewalk.
"So yeah that's about all the important places." I say with a smile. "I'm sorry there not like anything in New York."
"Yeah there nothing like New York... There're better." He says with a smirk.
"How?"
"Cause there're apart of you."We get home around 9 and decide it would be a good idea to go to sleep early because our flight leaves at 6 in the morning. I put on my supernatural pajamas and Maddox laid next to me. I close my eyes and drift to sleep...
I can't breath.
No not again.
I can feel the water entering my lungs and I can't even scream.
Gen wake up
I try to swim to the surface but a pair of hands are holding me down.
Maddox. I need you.
Why am I here? My vision is darkening.
Maddox.
I can feel myself losing strength and feeling in my arms. I look up one more time to see the man who I loved. The one I thought loved me.
I bolt up screaming for Maddox and he wakes up instantly.
"It's ok Princess. I'm right here. He's not actually here it was just a dream."
I can't speak I just sit there in a mix of hyperventilating and cries.
"I have you I'm not letting go."
I curl up in his arms pressing my head to his chest. His heartbeat is soothing. I'm about to speak when I hear him singing.
"When you try your best but you don't succeed
When you get what you want but not what you need
When you feel so tired but you can't sleep
Stuck in reverse
When the tears come streaming down your face
'Cause you lose something you can't replace
When you love someone but it goes to waste
What could it be worse?
Lights will guide you home
And ignite your bones
And I will try to fix you"
I've heard him sing before but he was just joking around. I didn't know he could actually sing his voice is beautiful.
"I didn't know you knew how to sing" I whisper
"My mom taught me how"
I look up at him and lock eyes with his blue ones.
"What was she like?"
He lets out a soft chuckle.
"She was the most genuine, funny, kind hearted person I've ever met."
"She seems amazing."
"Yeah, she was... she would have loved you."
"Really?" I questioned.
"Absolutely"
We lay there staring at the ceiling in silence. I feel my eyes drift shut as I wonder how I became so lucky.
