Link lunged forward, driving his blade straight through the stomach of a demon. He yanked it back out and the monster dropped to the ground. He then jumped to the side, avoiding the attack of another. He then preformed a spin attack, slicing a few monsters in half.
Link took a deep breath, wiping his hand over his forehead. They just kept coming.
He shook his head and kept slicing away at the beasts.
A loud galloping from a short distance away caught his attention as he finished off another one. He turned and saw a Pinto mare galloping away from a scene not too far away. Monsters were surrounding someone, preparing for the kill.
Link felt sick, but knew he'd never get to that person in time. He sent a silent prayer to the goddesses for him/her.
Just as he turned away, though, he heard her scream. He'd know that voice anywhere.
Suddenly, it didn't matter if it was impossible to reach her in time. This wasn't happening. He whipped around immediately at bolted towards them, faster than he thought he could. He leaped at one just as he lowered the blade to her chest.
He was just a second too late.
The knife pierced through her heart. Link fell to the ground, missing the demon in shock. He looked over at her, who the monsters had already abandoned,
"No! Please!" He ran over to her, falling to his knees beside Zelda's body. Her eyes were still open, dull and lifeless. Then, for about the 3rd time in his life, Link cried.
"No, no, please Zel, don't leave me. Please," he murmured, stroking her hair. The battle raged around him, but he heard and saw nothing. This could not be happening. This could NOT be happening.
"Well, well, well. Looks like somebody couldn't protect her well enough," A extremely familiar voice said in front of him.
Dark Link.
"What in Hyrule do you possibly want? You've already taken everything from me," Link said in a hollow voice. Dark Link crouched in front of him,
"Oh I know. Just came to see how you deal with it. Not well apparently," He added, noticing his stained cheeks,
"Look, if you're wanting to kill me, just do it. I have nothing to live for now anyway," Link glared at him before looking back down to Zelda,
"Wow, that's the first good idea I've heard from you! Oh, I will enjoy this," Dark Link chuckled, pulling out his black blade. Link didn't look up. He just took Zelda's hand, pressing it to his lips,
"I love you," He whispered before closing his eyes as Dark Link raised the sword.
~~
Zelda screamed against the dark mist restraining her. The scene before her was tearing her apart,
"That's not me! Please Link! Move! Fight him! That's not me!" She tried to scream out, but it was muted in the mist.
This could not be happening.
