Aubrey spent the whole entire day with her fingers crossed that she'd see Calum again.
"Fuck," Aubrey had said to Regina at lunch, "I wish I had been born like, a year before." Then she and Calum would be in the same classes. Granted, Michael and Ashton would be in her classes again, but it was a small price to pay for seeing Calum.
"You really like that boy, don't you?" Regina asked, shoveling a forkful of reheated pasta into her mouth. Aubrey nodded and stared over at Calum's table to see his back. Dammit.
"It's fine if you don't sit with me today." Regina replied, forcing on a grin. When Aubrey liked a boy, she liked to push people away to be with him. "I'll sit with the theatre kids."
Aubrey retuned her gaze to Regina. "He really gets me, Reg."
You spoke with this kid for like thirty minutes on a bus, Regina thought, but mentally glued her mouth shut. "That's awesome. Do you have the answers for the science homework?" Clearly she was done talking about Calum Hood.
"Oh yeah." Aubrey got out her binder and flipped through it.
Thankfully for Aubrey, lunch and classes ended quickly, and she practically rushed out the school and up the stepping stairs to the bus.
"Got a hot date, Collins?" Ashton teased as she took a seat in the fourth row.
"Got a car, Irwin?" She quipped back. His little group of friends laughed. "Jesus, Aub." He murmured as they retreated towards the back.
Calum entered the bus and her excitement shot up. "Hi."
                              "Hi."
He lugged his large backpack in the space their legs made. "Where did you even move here from?" She asked.
Ashton's little band had started up a song in the back, like they did sometimes. Calum drummed his fingers on his thigh to the beat. "Melbourne. Who's singing?"
Aubrey rolled her eyes. "My brother and his band. It's annoying, sor-" But Calum cut her off. "No, it's fine." His fingers quickened with the beat. "Damn, I love this song."
To Aubrey's fascination, he started singing along with the lyrics to the Mayday Parade song.
Aubrey could barely hear him over the rattle of the bus but managed to catch a few lines
"Oh can you tell, I haven't slept very well
Since the last time that we spoke, I said
'Please understand I've been drinking again, and all I do is hope'
                              Please... stay."
Damn, she thought, that boy's good.
Ashton gave her a look from the back. She nodded as if to say Yes, he is good.
The song ended, and Calum grinned at Aubrey. "You like Mayday Parade?"
                              that sucked lol
