It had been two days since Calum's first band practice and he couldn't stop thinking about two things (well, people).
                              1.) Aubrey
2.) How much Michael pissed him off.
He was sitting at the kitchen table, devouring a bowl of cereal when his mom asked, "How's your new school been?" She had asked this question multiple times since Calum's first day but always felt the need to check up on the subject.
"Good," Calum shrugged. He refrained from talking about Aubrey. All he needed was for his mother to make him look like a complete embarrassment in front of her or anyone for that matter.
"Did you make any new friends?" Calum's mother questioned. Calum wasn't the most popular boy at his old school. He did have friends, but he lost them. And then something happened that neither Calum nor his mother were comfortable talking about. It was a sensitive topic to say the least.
"Yes mum, I'm not a total loser. I do have a friend," Calum responded, annoyed with his mum's Q & A session.
"What's his name?" Calum's mum asked, excited Calum actually had a friend.
Calum had a choice. He could go with Aubrey or Ashton. He wasn't even completely sure that Ashton was his friend, and he was confident that Aubrey was more than a friend. "Ashton," Calum decided.
"That's nice. Do you think you'll have him over anytime soon? I'd love to meet him," Calum's mum smiled widely. She has happy for her son.
"No," Calum replied, "he's asked me to join his band so I'll probably be spending a lot of time at his place."
Calum had a friend and was in a band? Calum's mum practically squealed with excitement, "Who else is in it?"
"Luke, I don't think he likes me very much, and Michael who I know doesn't like me at all," Calum told his mum. Her excitement died down but not a lot. Calum checked the time.
                              "Shit!" Calum cussed, "I'm late."
He hurriedly grabbed his backpack and bass case, and sprinted to the bus stop. The bus was just about to leave when Calum jumped on. He saw Regina wasn't here today, so after he sat down, he texted Aubrey.
cal ♡: Regina isn't on the bus she okay?
Cal would've texted Regina himself but he didn't have her number. Aubrey quickly responded.
aubrey :): idk she hasn't been responding to any of my texts lately
He had added a smily face to Aubrey's name in his phone because that's how he felt when he thought of her.
                              cal ♡: oh, that's weird
                              aubrey :): ikr?!
That was the last message sent between the two as Aubrey's stop was next. She hopped on and sat next to Calum.
He had planned this out. He even practiced it in the mirror. He knew everything he was going to say. He- fuck it. It was now or never. Before Aubrey even said hello, he kissed her on the cheek. Well, he planned to, but at the last moment Aubrey turned her head and their lips collided.
Both of them were shocked at first. Aubrey even considered pulling away, but she didn't. And they kept kissing. (yASS)
At the back of the bus, where Ashton sits, Luke was searching for Aubrey. When he did find her, he was not happy. Who the fuck does this druggie think he is? Aubrey is my girl and he can't fuck with that shit, Luke thought. He had smoke pouring out of his ears like in the cartoons. His face turned a tomatoey red. He felt like exposing Calum right there, but then Calum would know he was going through his stuff. Luke had to play this game the right way. Everything will work out.
Calum, who was not aware of Luke's satanic plans, was having the time of his life. He liked kissing Aubrey. Scratch that, he loved kissing her. That indescribable feeling that he felt. He'd never felt it before. He'd never even really kissed a girl before. Well, that one time in sixth grade during spin the bottle. But that was forced, so it didn't really count. If Calum could sum up this feeling he would explain it as: a reason to keep fighting.
When they finally (and reluctantly) pulled away, neither knew how to react. Calum just smiled like he'd won the lottery and Aubrey giggled.
"So like, we kissed," Cal smiled. He could not wipe the grin off his face.
"Yeah, we did," Aubrey laughed. More out of nervousness than anything.
"Did I, y'know, kiss good?" Calum asked very awkwardly. Let's be honest, awkward was an understatement.
                              "Yes," Aubrey nodded, "very good."
Calum drummed his fingers against his thighs and looked around, not knowing exactly what to do. Aubrey laughed even harder.
"We are so bad at this flirting shit," she said in between breaths.
"Tell me about it," Calum laughed too. Aubrey leaned against his shoulder, her body shaking from laughing. He put his arm around her and laughed too.
"What are we?" Aubrey asked, in all seriousness, after she stopped laughing.
"I think that we should be boyfriend and girlfriend," Calum smiled down at her.
"Are you implying you want to ask me out?" Aubrey questioned, raising an eyebrow teasingly.
"Yes, I am," Calum responded confidently. "Would you, Aubrey Collins-Healan like to date me, Calum Thomas Hood?" He said this in a posh British accent.
"I would be delighted to, Mr. Hood," Aubrey responded. She was beaming brighter than the sun.
And that was how Calum and Aubrey started dating.
