Why had he agreed to the sleepover, alias the Super Summer Swimming Sleepover, as Stan liked to call it? He had felt so confident when replying to his best friend, but now, not so much.
"Hurry up! The heat is killing me," Stan complained from the other side of the door. Kyle dawdled and slowly put on his swim trunks. The life he was living was a sham, but he truly cared about Stan. Kyle knew his friend had no alibis of his secret, and he wanted to keep it that way. He only felt safe in water when luxuriating in a bath in private.
Kyle thought of every plan of escape he could make. He deducted that he could run away, that would be too obvious. Kyle decided he might want to dig a hole out, but he would need an accomplice to help him. Maybe, he thought, that he could leave, sickness being his motive. It would be a good scapegoat. "Kyle is something up? We don't have to swim if you really don't want to," Stan said genuinely.
"No, no. I'm fine. Just takin' a big dump," Kyle joked, flushing the empty toilet.
"Nasty! Ok, well, I'll see you out there," Stan replied, walking away from the door. Kyle took a shaky breath and stepped out. He just had to hope his friend would accept his true self.
He stepped outside to the smiling face of Stan.
Ok... I can do this, he thought as he waded into the water.
