I froze as I remembered the voice that had just spoken. I felt my heart quake heavily as I slowly turned around. "Hayden?"
"So this is what you've been up to, Miya? Sneaking around and sleeping with this douche?" Hayden asked, glaring at me angrily.
"How- how did you get here?" I asked, tears filling my eyes. I looked at Fabian. He shook his head.
"I came downstairs and saw you leaving, and I thought you were going to the library. I wanted to ask you if you wanted to go to Mom's shop with me," he said, coming closer. He was wearing a black hoodie that made his furrowed eyebrows angrier than they already were.
"I would've heard you," I said, doubting myself. "I must have."
"I made sure I was quiet...You'd know all about that wouldn't you?" he asked.
I felt my ears go hot. "Hey, don't blame her, H," Fabian said quickly. Hayden turned to him angrily. "It's not all her fault," he said boldly.
"How long did you know about this?!" Hayden asked suddenly. "I guess I was the only dumbass in the dark about this, right? You think I'm stupid?" he turned to me with a mix of mistrust and disgust. "I can't believe you'd stoop this low."
"Hayden, I- I....I just...I....I'm sorry!" I said, feeling the tears on my cheeks. "I love Aden..." I said slowly, almost unsure.
"You love him? You're just a kid, Miya! What the hell would you know about that?!" he growled.
"What about you? Don't you have a girlfriend?" I asked, wiping my face shamefully. "Don't YOU love her?"
"I have one, yeah, but she's eighteen, just like me," he said, turning to Mr. Miller.
"Listen, Hayden," Mr. Miller finally said. "You shouldn't be yelling at Amethyst. She didn't do anything wrong," he said quietly.
"I know she didn't," Hayden said. "I know that you're the piece of shit that got her into this-"
"You know cursing in this kind of situation is illogical and ignorant," Mr. Miller said angrily. He grabbed my hand and I felt relieved to have the warmth of his comfort console me. "Maybe you're too young to understand but-"
Hayden laughed. "Oh, really, Mr. Wise Guy? Well since your vocabulary is so big, maybe try this word : pedophile," he said, crossing his arms.
"Hayden, stop!" I said, voice cracking.
"That's what you are, isn't? I mean, she's under the age of eighteen and you're definitely over it. Who knows what you've been doing to her?" Hayden asked, watching as Mr. Miller's face grew uncomfortably red. I felt his hand slowly slipping out of mine.
"I- I...." Mr. Miller paused and I knew he didn't know what to say. I felt my heart shrink unevenly.
"Hayden! Aden hasn't DONE anything to me! We've haven't even met up more than five times!" That was a stupid defense but I couldn't think of anything else. I felt sick.
"Listen, asshole," Hayden began angrily. "I'll give you three minutes to get the hell out of here before I call the cops," he said, though he didn't look quite sure of himself.
"No you won't! No he won't," I said, turning to Aden pleadingly. He finally looked at me and sighed. I knew this wasn't good.
He gently reached over and kissed me for a long time on the cheek. "I'm sorry..." He paused. He finally said slowly, "I love you," and I felt something wet on my cheek. He was crying....With that, he turned away and walked back to his motorcycle with his head down and hands tucked deep into his pockets.
