Lance
"So you think it will be good to give your parents a break?" Lance asked.
In the past hour, Keith had caught Lance up on everything about his father and the problems they were going through.
"That's what I'm hoping for..." Keith said grimacing. Lance wished he could make the boy smile. Before he left, it used to be hard to get Keith to smile. But it was worth it, his smile was rare and unique. It lit up Keith's whole face and totally changed his personality. Lance remembered the time when him and Keith had been watching a movie as kids, and Keith had thought it was hilarious. The boys had totally opposite senses of humor, and Lance hadn't thought the movie funny at all. But Keith had loved it, so Lance watched it with him multiple times. Just to see him smile.
"So..about this trip.." Lance said.
Keith looked up at him from under his mullet, which shaded his eyes. It made him look mysterious and Lance's heart fluttered.
"Yeah.." Keith said biting his lip.
"I was wondering if maybe I could come?"
"Well, I'm sure my friends would love to meet you but..you have to pay for your own ticket and contribute even more.."
"I'll find enough money if it means I can be with you."
Keith blushed and looked away. He stared at his feet for a long time.
"Stop."
"Stop what?"
Keith was standing now. "That" he glared at Lance.
"That what?"
"Ugh, the thing you do. When you do that thing with your eyes."
"What the hell are you talking about Keith?"
"Goddamnit Lance..nevermind."
"What did I do?.."
"Ugh, nothing..nothing..Your fine. It's not you..It's me."
I want to help him.. Lance thought. I want back what we had before.
The two boys sat in silence for a while more before Keith spoke again.
"So uh how has it been in New York?"
Lance grinned remembering the busy city. "Nothing can beat California of course, but Manhattan was pretty great."
"I've never been.."
"Oh! We should go sometime! I could introduce you to my friends there, I have a best friend, her name was Romelle."
