Childhood Memory-Keith 14)

It had been a bland morning, waking up late and watching Netflix until he decided Lance was probably up. Keith called him 6 times, and Lance never picked up. So Keith assumed he was just busy. But then it was almost 1. Lance would tell him if he was too busy...something wasn't right.

So he waited a little longer, then he decided to go to the house. No one seemed to be gone which was also weird, at least one person would be out. Keith decided to walk around and just wait around, maybe he would come out later and explain what had happened.

After playing on his phone for a little while, he heard some commotion from the back of Lance's house.

He hurried toward the backdoor and looked over the small fence to see Lance walking away from the house. He wanted to call but there was something in Lance's eyes. He looked uncertain and scared, that wasn't like him. Keith thought for a moment standing there.

I should be there for him, I am his best friend. Whatever is going on..but..He looked like he needed to be alone.

So Keith left him alone. He waited sitting at the top of the hill behind his own house. He could see the beach from there, he could see a small view of a couple and what he assumed to be Lance. He was sitting in water, a while passed and then he was at the rock. The rock they claimed was there, so many memories passed there.

Keith decided it was time to go investigate. He told his mom he was going to see Lance and headed down to the beach. He crept up on him, feet padding on the sand all the way over.

Lance didn't turn. "Lance?" Keith asked, his voice soft.

Lance turned, his eyes were puffy and red, and his hair was messy. He didn't smile. He was sitting on the rock now, knees tight to his chest.

Keith's eyebrows knitted together as he climbed up next to Lance.

"Lance..what's wrong?" he asked.

He couldn't tell if Lance was angry or sad or scared..every emotion seemed to mix and a confusing look appeared on his face. He looked at Keith, his blue eyes deep and sad. He blinked and gulped looking away.

Keith raised a hand to his shoulder, "Whatever it is, I'm here okay? I'm not going anywhere."

That seemed to make Lance feel worse. A tear fell down his cheek and he turned into Keith's arms, head at his chest.

Keith smiled laying his head on Lance's hair. He heard Lance sniffle, and could feel him shuddering.

He waited for a few minutes until Lance actually looked up at him.

"Do..do you want to talk about it now?" Keith asked hesitantly.

Lance looked anywhere but at Keith's face when he spoke.

"It's..I'm sorry Keith- I- this isn't my fault-" his voice cracked and another tear fell down his face.

"Lance. Lance its okay." Keith said. He waited until Lance looked at him.

They held eye contact as Lance explained.

"I don't want to go Keith but, Mama said we don't have enough money with Abuela to stay here now that Rachel and Maria are here and we have to go away.."

Whatever Lance was saying immediately disappeared. Go away..Lance was leaving him? Yes, it was reasonable, There wasn't enough money. Of course.

He was in shock. "We are going to New York..."

Why was this happening? Why now? They were supposed to be best buddies for life, spend the rest of their lives together.

I haven't told him how I feel. Keith thought. He watched as Lance started crying again, Keith could feel the tears pour down his face. He didn't try to hide it.
