Johnathan had awoken in a room. A bright light shining into his face, blinding him for a second. Blinking away the light he looked to his side, and saw Sebastian, with tears in his eyes, smiling at him. Johnathan smiled back, but when he tried to rise from his bed a sharp pain in his side stopped him from moving.
"The doctor said not to move for a few hours. Your wound is still healing. When I woke up they told me about your situation. They gave us some Oxycontin. I was told we should only take them every two to three hours if pain persists. Cause it can cause addiction," Sebastian said, "I'm sorry for jumping in and putting myself at risk. It was stupid of me and I could've died," Sebastian looked down at his feet. "I hope you can forgive me." Sebastian muttered.
"You're right. What you did was stupid. And I'm only gonna forgive you cause you're being pathetic." Johnathan laughed. It was better to try and make light of the situation, lift some spirits. Sebastian looked back up, and gave back a weak half smile.
"Oh, good you two are up!" Eden exclaimed through the doorway. Limping in on her crutches, she sat down on the bed. "So, we gonna talk about our plans to hop on a train?" She asked.
"How did you know about that?" Sebastian asked, shocked about how Eden even knew about their plan.
"Overheard. I'm coming with ya. Sure, my life ain't as shitty as y'all's but, I should still be there for you. Thomas is in too. Whatever you say we do, we do it." Eden said.
Sebastian and Johnathan both smiled at Eden. And, though it caused him great pain and struggle to do, Johnathan hoisted himself up and hugged Eden. That sharp pain dragging on as long as he held Eden in that hug. A good few seconds until Johnathan couldn't handle the pain anymore and had to fall back down onto his bed.
"Thanks, Eden," Johnathan replied, "I'm glad you're with us on this. Seb, how long do we have until the train leaves?" Johnathan asked, tilting his head to look over at Sebastian.
"Let me check." Sebastian replied, and pulled out his phone to check the date. He put his phone back into his pocket and looked at Johnathan. "It leaves tomorrow, Ten AM...none of us will be fully recovered then though, and if we don't get on this train we'd have to wait another week for the next one!" Sebastian complained, everyone there knew he was right. None of them would be recovered and Johnathan could barely sit up, how would he stand and move? Eden was relying on crutches, would she even be fast enough to jump on? They don't have any money so they'll have to steal a ride, and not get caught.
"Then we leave at nine?" A familiar voice asked from the doorway. It was Thomas. He was really the only one not hurt but he never visited the hospital when they were there, so it was an unusual sighting. "Since the one and only train in town is leaving at ten to the city, we should get there at nine. Or, better yet, sneak on tonight." Thomas said.
"What do you mean by that?" Johnathan asked.
"I've developed a plan to help you guys out, we leave at midnight tonight. Leave notes in your rooms explaining the situation so if we're reported missing it'll be tossed out as a runaway case that the cops can do nothing about. Sebastian, you're the fittest person out of all of us. Eden can't walk fast enough to not get caught so, I want you to carry her. It'll slow you down but not as much as it would slow the group if Eden moved by herself." Thomas explained.
"What about me?" Johnathan asked, "I can barely sit up without feeling this pain in my side, how am I supposed to walk?" Thomas looked concerned, like Johnathan wasn't meant to get hurt, but sighed as if he knew this would happen.
"I suggest you rest. If you still can't sit up, you take your painkillers and I'll help you move around until those kick in." Thomas explained.
Johnathan's phone started to ring.
Everyone fell silent. It was just the ringtone that pierced through their ears. It sounded so loud now that it was the only thing making noise.
Was it always this loud?
Johnathan didn't answer the phone. After it's hissy fit, he picked it up and noticed he had multiple text messages from his mother. Before and after he was stabbed by his father.
"Pick up the phone honey, it's urgent. Your father is being taken into police custody and I don't know why!"
Read the most recent notification. There were thirteen text notifications in total and about three missed calls. His sister had also called and texted, but far less than his mother had. About twice. She tried to call once. His father only sent him one message.
"You're the devils child. Not mine."
That's all the justification Johnathan needed. He was definitely ready to leave this damned town. Looking over at his friends, the only true family he's had for years, and knew he was ready to leave. He looked over at Sebastian and realized how much he loved him. And how much pain it would cause him if Sebastian got hurt. Sebastian looked in his eyes and repeated his feelings, he didn't need to say anything, they could read each other wonderfully without words.
"Me and Eden will be going now, Eden needs her rest and- so do I." Thomas mentioned abruptly. His eyes seemed...glossed over. Like he was a robot, remembering something he didn't want to recall.
"Oh! Ok! Bye Tom! Uh, later Eden!" Sebastian said as Eden was escorted out by Thomas. Once they left, Johnathan lifted up his arm and tugged on Sebastian's shirt sleeve.
"I'd feel a lot better if you'd cuddle me Sebby." Johnathan said, grinning, like he was a sly fox. After some sighing and (very little) convincing, Sebastian hugged Johnathan close to himself as they settled into dreamland together. Everything they did was for each other and together. How would they last without each other though?
