"You ever just feel lonely?" Mikey asked, "Like.. just.. even when you're around close friends you still feel excluded?"
"I sleep in a car, Mikey," Lynz said.
"Right, didn't know that, by the way," Mikey said.
"Nobody did nor cared. Anyway, keep talking."
"There was just always something about this place that made me sad," Mikey said, "I guess I just never knew it until uhm.."
"Until what?" Lynz asked.
"Um-" Mikey smiled softly, remembering all the fun moments him and his old roommate have had.
"Aww you're blushing," Lynz teased.
"Shut up, how can you tell?" Mikey said.
"I can't, you just told me," Lynz laughed, "Spill."
"I met this guy in the care unit," Mikey said, "Promise not to tell anyone."
"Cross my heart and hope to die," Lynz promised.
"This guy was my roommate and he's a drac," Mikey said, waiting a moment for Lynz to openly judge him. When she didn't, he kept talking, "And the moment I met him, I already had a liking toward him. It was like he was aware of the whole system but had no idea what to do other than go along with it."
"What!? I didn't know those people existed!" Lynz said.
Mikey couldn't wipe the small smile off his face, "I didn't either. And every night we'd just stay up and talk. It was nice. I convinced him to get off the pills and those conversations just got better."
"Were you happy?"
"I think," Mikey said, "Just made me feel worse coming back here, though."
It felt so good to get it off his chest.
"Seems like a great guy for a drac," Lynz said.
"And I think one of those things pulling me down is coping with the fact that I'll never see him again," Mikey said, "And I'll be honest, I don't know how love feels, but I just know that's how I felt."
"Don't hold back," Lynz said, "Don't wait a second. Listen to me, Mikey, don't let him get away, okay?"
"But I had to," Mikey said, "I would've died if I didn't."
"Here, I've got an idea," Lynz said, "Wanna do something wild tonight?"
"What?" Mikey asked, figuring he wouldn't be sleeping tonight anyway.
"Let's go to the city and get your little girl back," Lynz said.
"Why?"
"Because you're sad and heartbroken," Lynz said, "And everybody'll love you if you get her back."
"True," Mikey whispered.
"Here, hand me the wheel. I'll get us there and we'll go get her."
Mikey stopped the car, switching seats with Lynz, who booked it.
"Mikey, I want you to chase after that boy if you really love him," Lynz said, "Don't let him get away or else... you'll get hurt."
"Has that ever happened to you?" Mikey asked, watching Lynz as her eyes stay locked on the desert ahead of them, stone cold.
"Yeah, once. And it hurt. I thought I was in love with your brother, but I didn't do anything about it. And look, he's taken. Maybe if I just did something we might've been together."
Mikey stared down at his lap, "Oh."
"I'm over it now," Lynz said, "But you're not over this guy. Don't let distance stop you guys. And don't let good or bad either. You fell for someone on the other side, so what? He thinks like a good guy."
