The seasons had started to change from the warm golden glow of the summer sun to the crisp air of fall as the weather once again shifted to the cool air brought by the winter months. The days were closely encroaching upon the Christmas holidays, which brought excitement to both Remus and Sirius but a sense of dread to Harry. Sure his new parents had been sure to give him the most exhilarating birthday he had ever seen, and they fed him everyday without fail, he just couldn't put the thoughts of Christmas at the Dursley's behind him. Remus and Sirius would get presents for each other and enjoy each other's company but would leave Harry locked away. At least he had a comfortable room now. He was thankful for that, he wasn't going to complain or mention it to either men.

Harry was currently entertaining himself in his bedroom with some of the toys he had received from his new friends and family for his birthday. He was quite fond of a few of them and even read a few books with the help of Remus. He was sitting on his bed with a few quidditch figurines Sirius had given him for his birthday. There was a knock on the door and Harry looked up to see Remus and Sirius walk in. Harry smiles at them and received a smile in return from them both.

"You've been quiet cub, is everything okay?" Remus asks, moving to sit beside him on the bed as Sirius stood in the doorway, leaning against the doorframe. Harry nodded and looked back down at his toys. He felt the eyes of both men on him and kept his eyes averted.

Sirius sighs and looks at him. "Listen, Harry. You know Rem and I won't hurt you or send you back to that-" he paused, carefully thinking over his words so as to not say any foul words, "that horrible house. We want you here. We want you to be safe. You're like our son now." He smiles a little. "I don't know what's going on in that head of yours but let's change those thoughts. Rem and I want to know what you'd like for Christmas." Both men looked back at Harry and Harry looked up at them in shock. They actually wanted to know what he wanted for Christmas? Harry shrugs,

"I don't know... I was never asked" he mumbles. Remus sighs,

"Well, we want to give you a good first Christmas then." He smiles a little. Sirius smiles and walks farther into the room.

"Rem and I already have a few gifts bought and set aside for you, we just wanted to know if you had any special request." Harry shrugs and smiles a little at them,

"I don't know." He says quietly. Remus nods,

"You have plenty of time to think of some ideas, we just wanted you to start thinking." He smiles at him and ruffles Harry's already unruly hair. Harry laughs and smiles. Sirius smiles at them, moments like this made him happy. He was glad to see his godson happy like every other kid, to laugh and smile and play. He was even more glad to have Remus with him, he knew James would be proud of him and Remus as well as Harry. Sirius lost himself in thought as he watched them.

Remus looked over at Sirius and saw that he was lost in thought. He caught Harry's eye and gestured to the pillow and brought a finger to his lips. Harry nods and covers his mouth, giggling quietly. Remus picked up the small pillow and tossed it at Sirius, hitting him in the face with it. Sirius looked at Remus and playfully glared at him. He lunged at Remus, knocking both of them off of Harry's bed. Harry watched them and laughed a little, them looked at the spot where Sirius had been, now seeing a great black dog, standing over Remus. Remus seemed unfazed  by the creature. The dog turned and looked at Harry, wagging its tail. Remus sat up and pat the dog's head, smiling.

"Where's Daddy?" Harry asked quietly. Remus looked from Harry to the dog before realizing Harry didn't know Sirius could turn into a dog.

"Oh. This is Daddy. He's an animagus, he can turn into a dog. Pads, turn back, Harry looks petrified. The dog suddenly was shifting back into the human form of Sirius. Harry's look of fear changed into one of amazement.

"Whoa!" He exclaimed excitedly. "Can you do that too papa?" He asks. Remus frowns a little,

"No, not exactly." He says and rubs the back of his neck. Remus stood up and ruffled Harry's hair again, "its different." Harry nods, looking up at Remus' tired face. Sirius smiles sadly, it would be very difficult to try to explain to Harry that Remus was a werewolf, but that was for another time. They had easily been able to keep Remus' hairy little problem under control, their cellar was able to contain Moony and Harry wasn't the wiser. The longer it stayed that way the better.
