The small family had slowly developed a routine for when Harry would need a sitter on the days that the full moon would hit. Although he had grown accustomed to the routine of staying with the sitter for the one or two nights necessary every month, he still found it far from easy to be okay with the departure from his parents. It wasn't unexpected that Harry would have a hard time with it, especially after the loss of Lily and James, his time with the Dursleys, and a whole new way of life to grow accustomed to. Sirius and Remus were patient with the adjustment period though. They knew it would carry on for some time, Harry was after all, still a young child. It would pass in time like all children's phases do.
Despite the new routine, all had been well with the family. They made trips into town to get Harry new clothing, to replace the ones he slowly began to outgrow, and regular grocery shopping. With every trip, the fathers could see Harry slowly getting more and more relaxed and comfortable with life outside the home. He had been anxious and somewhat disturbed by the idea of leaving the small cottage due to how little he left the Dursleys, and how when he did, it wasn't for anything more than a few minutes in the backyard, or to be a punching bag for Dudley and his gang. The two were glad to see that Harry was slowly coming out of his shell and beginning to carry the curious twinkle in his eye that James and Lily both proudly sported.
Upon returning home from their errands into town, Harry went up to his room to look more carefully at the clothes and toys they had gotten that day. Meanwhile, Sirius and Remus brought the bags of food into the kitchen and began to put them away. Remus stood at the counter as he placed some cans and boxes on the shelf. Sirius smiled to himself and walked over, gently resting his hands on the other's hips as he placed a soft kiss on his shoulder. Remus gave a small relaxed sigh as he leaned against Sirius' chest. It had been a little less than a week since the last full moon, and Remus was still feeling his last transformation.
"You alright, Love?" Sirius asked softly as he moved his arms to be a hug around his lover's waist. Remus gave a nod as he relaxed in Sirius' hold,
"Just a little worn out, that's all," Remus said and turned his head slightly so he could see the other. Sirius gave a nod,
"Well, you could go take a hot bath and I can handle dinner tonight?" Sirius suggested with a smirk. Remus laughed,
"You? Cook dinner? You may have well asked if I'd like my house turned to ash."
"Oh please, I'm not that bad of a cook, I can make some great stovetop macaroni and cheese. Harry will eat that just fine." Sirius said and kissed Remus' cheek, "you can go and relax, I'll bring you up a cup of tea, alright?" He ordered more than offered. Remus reluctantly nodded and gave Sirius a quick kiss,
"Alright, you've convinced me. Thanks, Padfoot." Sirius smiled as he allowed Remus to step away to move upstairs,
"Anytime, Moony." He replied cheekily, giving Remus' butt a light spank, startling him. Remus turned to playfully glare at Sirius, earning a toothy grin in return.
"Don't you start that now, Harry's still up," Remus warned. Sirius chuckled,
"We can always cast a soundproofing spell, Moons, we are wizards after all." As if to solidify his point, he pulled his wand out and gave it a small wave in front of Remus, "It's been a hot minute, I know you're thinking what I'm thinking." He grinned and stepped a little closer to Remus. Remus gave a small sigh,
"I hate it when you're right," he said with a soft grin as the two made their way up the stairs and down the hall.
A few minutes later, Harry came out of his room and went downstairs, looking for either or both of his fathers, as he wanted to show them that he had figured out how his new toy worked, without their help. Upon arriving at the kitchen, Harry was slightly concerned by what he saw. Groceries and empty bags littered the kitchen. Remus never walked away from groceries that weren't put away. Most concerning of all was that their new jug of milk was still out. The number of times that Harry had heard Remus scold Sirius for leaving the milk out told him something wasn't right here. "Papa?" He asked as he walked around the kitchen as if to make sure he hadn't overlooked his parents. "Daddy?" He asked a bit louder, maybe they were just out of earshot? Maybe they went outside to grab something they forgot?
Harry walked to the front door, he knew not to leave the house without one of his parents, so he just quickly opened the door to see if they were outside. There was their driveway, no Remus, no Sirius, only pavement. Harry frowned and set his toy down after closing the door. This required both hands and all of his attention, his toy could wait. He tried to stay calm as he looked around the entire bottom floor of the house, calling for his fathers here and there, every minute that went by left Harry more and more afraid. Maybe they went upstairs? Harry had checked every possible place for them down here, even in the cupboards that he could reach. So, he made his way upstairs, being sure to keep what little wits he had left with him.
Harry checked every door that he walked past to ensure that Remus and Sirius weren't in there, he even checked his room to be safe. After checking everything, all that was left to check was his fathers' room. He approached it and turned the handle, walking inside the room, oblivious to the events taking place inside.
Remus and Sirius turned their heads in sync to look at Harry as we walked in, Sirius quickly pulling the blanket tight over their bodies, moving to sit beside Remus to be less suspicious. Harry looked at his fathers with a mix of emotions and questions, but he said nothing. Why were they naked in bed and not putting groceries away? Why were they both so sweaty and out of breath? Why was their hair sticking up on all ends? This was very confusing, to say the least.
"Daddy? Papa? Why were you rolling around in bed? There are groceries on the counter still." Harry pointed out, almost accusatory.
"Well, uh, you see," Remus started, glancing at Sirius for help.
"We were just playing a game, we hadn't forgotten the groceries. I was about to come and make us some dinner, okay?" Sirius said, running his fingers through his hair to smooth it out.
"A game? Can I play?" Harry asked with a smile but frowned when both his fathers quickly said 'no' at the same time.
"Alright, pup, let us get ready for dinner, we'll be downstairs in a minute. Okay?" Remus asked, Harry, nodded begrudgingly and closed the door as he left. Remus sighed and pulled his clothing back on after he stood up. Sirius chuckled as he stood and took his time getting dressed. "I told you we shouldn't while Harry was up. We're lucky he came in at the end." He said to Sirius and sighed. Sirius kept chuckling as he brushed his hair out of his face,
"Well, I suppose you are right, as usual," Sirius said as he smiled at the other, moving to kiss him softly before pulling away. "Go and enjoy your bath, Harry and I can handle dinner, and I won't forget your tea." Remus smiled and nodded,
"Thank you, I do need to unwind." He said as he stood and went to leave the room, "oh, and I don't need to tell you, but don't tell Harry what this 'game' is, okay?" He asked, getting a nod in response from Sirius.
"Oh, of course, Moony, I wouldn't do that, he's far too young to even begin thinking about that", he chuckled as he walked to the door as well. The two gave each other one last kiss, before heading in their respective directions.
Sirius made dinner as Remus relaxed in the bath, and as promised, Sirius brought Remus his cup of tea once the food was done. He and Harry started to eat without Remus, giving him the time to relax that he needed. The rest of the night went on peacefully, Harry had entirely forgotten about the whole fiasco he had seen upon walking into his parent's room, which was a great relief to his parents. All was well at home.
