Sath, Richard, and Cabs sat around a stone table underneath a pink orchid tree. The fallen petals surrounded them. Today, Richard and Cabs reached a higher plane of existence; they were knighted as gods. They all drank tea together. Cabs put on a yellow plaid tie just for the occasion.
Sath: "You have no idea how proud I am of you both. You've faced the hardships of ascendance and see that you two have risen above the crop. You both made it."
Richard: "It's all thanks to you, Sath. I don't know if we could've ever done it without you; hell, I don't know where we'd be without you."
Cabs: "Probably dead or worse."
Richard: "Yes, Cabs, we-"
Cabs: "We'd probably have been decapitated by Nogu."
Richard: "Yes, Ca-"
Cabs: "We would've been turned into taxidermy."
Richard: "Thank you, Ca-"
Cabs: "Or we'd be erased from the univer-"
Richard: "Thank you for your input, Cabs. Sincerely though, we're in your debt."
Sath: "Neither of you owes me anything. I merely serve creation and destiny. I haven't interfered with creation or its products since the dawn of existence, but I felt that it was time."
The two nodded in agreement. For a while, they sat in silence, drinking tea and admiring the garden's beauty. Cabs himself was unsure if he'd see a place as abundant in color or life as this.
Richard: "I'm sorry to bring this up, but just so we're prepared, when will this guy arrive? The multiverse-ender, I mean."
Sath: "Soon. I cannot provide a timeframe, time is a fickle thing, but rest assured, I will let you two know. You'll know when."
They nodded. Sath rested his cup aside and reached in his cape.
Sath: "I have something for you two."
Cabs: "Is it a cow?"
Sath: "No."
Sath revealed an old key marked with a skull. With a wave of his hand, Richard and Cabs felt a small scratching sensation at the back of their heads. He put the key away.
Richard: "What was that?"
Sath: "I marked the back of your skulls with the grace of a skeleton key; it will allow you to travel between the Space Between Dimensions. You'll be able to travel wherever you please in a relatively short period of time."
Cabs: "Radical."
Sath: "As our homo ursus said, 'Radical'."
They all laughed softly and gayly. Eventually, when the sun set and the moon took its place in the sky, they rose. Richard and Cabs bowed to their teacher and friend. It was time.
Richard: "Sath."
Sath: "Richard. Copious Amounts of Bo-"
Cabs: "Just call me Cabs."
Sath: "Cabs."
The two began to walk away.
Cabs: "Wait, how do we actually use this?"
Sath: "Just say your lucky number and you'll be beamed up."
Richard looked at his friend, smiling slightly. Cabs smiled back.
Cabs: "25!"
With that, they vanished. A new adventure began, but for once, they were in control. They could lose themselves in the wonders of the universe without consequence or maybe, they'll just go to a bar to get fucking wasted. Time would tell.
