Previously in chapter 2...Unknown to Adrien and Marinette, Lila snaps a photo and thinks, haha! This will make Chloe angry and will cause Adrien to see how dangerous that little bakery girl is! She sends the photo to the local newspaper and laughs under her breath as she leaves.
Now, in the current Chapter, it is the next morning!
Adrien wakes up and brings in the newspaper! He eats his usual toast with strawberry jam, scrambled eggs, and grits for breakfast! He drinks a tall glass full of orange juice. When he sees the newspaper headline he almost spits out the orange juice in anger! How dare someone do this! Adrien thinks, great what if Marinette sees it?
The headline in the paper, he saw LOCAL MODEL TRADES OUT HIS HOT BLONDE CHLOE BOUERIOUS FOR A LOCAL BAKERY GIRL? This is followed by a picture of him and Marinette together from the day before when he caught her so she wouldn't get hurt. Then the story in the paper makes it sound like he was secretly seeing Marinette Dupain-Cheng behind Chloe's back.
It also, claims Marinette is a little slimeball for letting herself be drawn in by Agreste junior's charming good looks. The rest of the article continues to say horrible things about both Adrien and Marinette altogether. It asks viewers if they think, Adrien should dump his new love, for his old flame, or if he should continue with his new distasteful girl?
Adrien is furious! He can't believe it. How could someone do this to him! Let alone to Marinette! Why he barely knew her! He only helped her out because that is what any decent person in his shoes would have done, right? How could someone take such an innocent act such as rescuing her from falling into the cement pavement out of context like this? Adrien felt like he owed it to both himself and especially to Marinette to find out how this happened in the first place. He couldn't just let her reputation be in ruins because of him. He hurried out the door already way behind schedule for school as it is.
Marinette arrives late, as usual, today and runs to class. She slides into her seat and smiles when Adrien shows up after her and sits next to Nino. Adrien seems a bit off as he waves to her, but his face shows he is upset. Marinette wonders, what is it that has him so angry?
"Why hello! If it isn't little Miss Slimeball and boyfriend stealer herself!" Chloe blurts out.
Miss Bustier overhears and glares at her, "Chloe Bougerious you apologize to Marinette right now or it's the principal's office for you! Now!"
Chloe can tell she means business. She glares at Marinette and walks out to the principal's office. On the way there she mutters under her breath, "Ugh, she steals my man and I am the one being punished. This is so unfair."
A few hours later, during lunch, Marinette ignores Adrien when he asks her to pass him a bottle of chocolate milk.
Nino shrugs his shoulders and hands it to him. Nino and Alya sit down at a table together. Marinette sits down in silence next to Alya.
Adrien comes over and sits down across from Alya and Marinette. Marinette does not look at him. She has tears in her eyes.
"Marinette, look! I never meant for all this to happen! You have to believe me! Someone just took my heroic action from yesterday out of line that is all." Adrien tries to explain.
Marinette looks at him, as she wipes the tears away. "You're popular and can have any girl! Besides, everyone knows you are still with Chloe, so the paper is wrong!" Marinette protests.
"Marinette, about that well you see I broke up with Chloe after I took her home yesterday. I had too because my father set me up with her, but I don't like her. Not at all," Adrien says.
"What about the part where the article claims you like me?" Marinette questions with a flush in her cheeks.
Adrien thinks she is so cute! Wait, what?
"Oh, don't be silly! I mean we only just meet a few months ago, and besides, I hardly know anything about you." Adrien says.
"I see, " Marinette stands up, cries, and walks away.
Adrien watches her go and sighs. He thinks, could this day get any worse?
Alya smiles. " Adrien, come on! Go after her!" Alya insists.
"I can't what will people think?" Adrien responds.
"Adrien, you know you lied to my best friend to spare her feelings. I can tell you like her! If only just as friends for now maybe someday you could be something more," Alya replies.
Adrien nods his head. He leaves the table much to the dismay of Chloe and her awful friends. He exits the cafeteria and sees Marinette in the hallway near the lockers.
"Marinette? " Adrien calls out.
"Wh-what do you want?" Marinette asks.
"Marinette, look I am sorry all this happened. I want to be your friend, honest!" Adrien says.
"So, will you be my friend?" Adrien questions.
Marinette blushes and nods her head yes. She smiles as she tells him, "A-Adrien, I would be glad to be your friend!"
It begins to storm outside! Boom! The thunder and lightning rage rather loud and the rain falls heavy from the sky.
Marinette quivers as the power goes out!
"Don't tell me you're afraid of the dark?" Adrien teases her.
Marinette shivers and Adrien wraps his coat around her.
