"Girl, I'm not happy about it at all, but what can I do? I have to support my husband," I say to my best friend, Gladys.

"I'm sure it won't be that bad. She is old enough to turn out to be ok. She isn't a kid," Gladys says.

"Well, if they are not treating her like a kid, by shipping her off to her uncle, I don't know what she is."

Gladys laughs, "I understand, Mo, but give her a chance. She might not be as troublesome as they make her out to be."

"I will be fair, you know that, it's just that not long ago Phillip and I were discussing how we want our living arrangements to be. That, definitely, wasn't with any relatives."

Gladys hands me a smoothie. This is what we have each time we are returning to our vehicles after going for a run together.

"Shhh...we came here to unwind and relax. Let's not worry about 'the kid' until she is here tomorrow."

I take a huge sip, "speaking of which, we won't be able to have dinner together as planned tomorrow. We will have to do it on Thursday, instead. She will just be here. I don't want to appear rude."

"I'm already not liking her, Mo!"

That gets me to laugh.

Gladys nudges me, "there you go. It will be alright. On second thought, you can bring her along on Thursday. I might as well get to meet her."

I knit my brows, "what? I already have to deal with her at home. Let me enjoy my time away with my best friend, will you?"

Gladys laughs, "whatever you say, meaney."

I grin and open my car door.

"Thanks for the smoothie, Gee. I will see you Thursday."

I start up and head home to enjoy one more evening with just my husband.
