Feeling so winded from our jog, Gladys and I fight to get our breathing back to normal. We stop at a nearby park bench to recuperate.
"Gee, when were you planning on telling me about Friday and Saturday night with Olivia?"
She wipes at her sweat, "as soon as I catch my breath."
She exhales and inhales, "we are all going out Friday and Saturday."
I smack her arm.
"Quit playing!"
"Ouch! Mo, she's super cool. I'm sure you can't deny that. Something tells me she enjoys our company as much as we do hers."
"I'm not saying no to that, Gee, but..."
"But what? What's your problem with her?"
"Ugh, never mind." I get up and walk back to my vehicle, Gladys towing.
She smacks my butt, playfully, "don't go catching feelings, Mo."
I spin around fast, "what does that even mean? Don't talk crap to me, Gladys."
"Whoa! First name basis. What's up with you? I was only kidding, Simone!"
She doesn't even wait for me to respond. She takes off in the direction of her truck. I run and catch up to her, grabbing her by the hand.
"I'm sorry, Gee. I was out of line. I just...I don't know."
"Our friendship is solid, Mo, you know that. No matter how cool she is, she isn't you."
Fuck! She was referring to our friendship. I totally misunderstood her statement. I thought for sure she meant don't go catching feelings for Olivia as opposed to me being jealous of her spending time with Olivia. I pull her into a hug, and we say goodbye.
All the way home, I am thinking of how stupidly I reacted to Gladys' comment. Will I make her think something else now? Did I polish that off as smoothly as I wanted to? Ugh. I just want things to go back to normal.
I get home, and, thankfully, no one is here. I rush to take a shower, and I go to the kitchen to snack on something. Looking in the fridge, I feel arms wrapping around my torso. I, immediately, think of Olivia. I see her face. I smell her cherry breath. I feel her body against mine. I want to taste her lips.
I turn around, and Phillip's lips are on mine. I want them to be someone else's, but, maybe, this is what I need to get her out of my mind. I need to forget Olivia. Maybe, a good fuck will set me back on the right path. I hope he can see this through right now. I hope he can fully satisfy me tonight.
