Music greets me as I enter the door. What I see next, I wasn't expecting. There, dancing in front of the fridge, seeming to want to charm a water bottle, is the niece of my husband. She is twirling, seeming to be in an upbeat mood.
I couldn't help but smile. Some of my worries seem to fade away at the sight of her. I thought that I would have to deal with someone dark and moody, but by the looks of things, she is anything but.
She is tall, maybe, three inches taller than I am. Her body is athletic. It is very clear to see with her dancing like that. Every muscle seems to be flexing at some point or the other. She is wearing real short orange shorts, knee high, grey socks, and a grey tank top. Her hair is in a messy bun, high on top of her head.
She blows in her gum, causing a huge bubble, spins around, and catches sight of me. The gum plasters almost over her entire face. I am grinning, and so is Olivia. She does one swipe with her tongue and clears everything away.
"That's some gum talent you got there," I say.
She chuckles, "I like to call it tongue talent," she sticks out her hand in my direction, "my uncle sure made a great choice. I'm Olivia, much prefer it if you call me Livvy."
I take her hand in a shake, "nice meeting you, Livvy. I'm Simone, the one without any talents."
Olivia giggles, "that's ok. Many can't do the things that I can, but... you can try."
She pulls a gum from her pocket, handing it to me.
"Gee, thanks! No one has ever gifted me gums before."
She grins, "that's me! The one with the best gifts."
I accept the gum and walk away, telling her I will go get comfortable. I just need a moment to digest everything. All the way home from work, I was thinking I would not like what I meet, but it's the complete opposite. Maybe things won't be so bad after all.
