"Hey I'm glad y'all made it!" Shelby, one of the most popular girls welcomed us into her house for an end of the year party. Tyler fixed his collar and Brooke walked in after him with a hair flip. I was gonna follow suit but my phone started to buzz. I told Brooke I would be back in a second.
I sat on the curb and answered my Aunt's call.
"Hey."
"Sweetie when are you going to answer your mother's letter?"
Rubbing my temples in frustration I answered, "I don't want to talk to her."
"She really misses you."
"Oh really? Look Aunty J. she didn't even care or want to see me before she got convicted. What makes you think she cares now?"
"Jade don't you dare say that about your mother!" Even though I knew I was right, I still felt a small amount of guilt."
"I'm sorry."
"Do you have it with you?" I put my hand in my pocket to feel the crumpled envelope. Tears came to my eyes.
"Yes."
"Just think about it Jade, I won't try to force you anymore because I know it's hard."
"I wish dad were here."
"He would be proud of you." I wiped my eyes with my sleeve and said goodbye. Placing my phone back into my pocket, I walked into the party. There was a stereo blasting the lastest radio hits and the people danced to the beat. Both Tyler and Brooke came up to me, Tyler at my eye level and as always, little Brooke.
Tyler handed me a drink, and said that it was "amazing". And it was. It immediatley made me feel like I was on cloud 9. The room began to spin. The lights seemed brighter. The food tasted better. The music got louder...
But one thing I really noticed,
Was that Brooke seemed prettier.
The sparkle in her beautiful grey eyes seemed to shine more. I didn't know what it was but I didn't think about it much. Brooke and I kept dancing and to the songs when our ultimate favorite song came on: Stuck In the Middle With You. Brooke tried to pull in Tyler with us but he didn't like that kind of music so he just sat down and ate a pizza. Brooke stuck her tongue out at him and she grabbed my hands.
"C'mon lets dance!" We began to sway and ended up doing the two step or something. Halfway through the song everyone had joined in, including Ty. Once the song ended Brooke and I fell to the floor laughing until we couldn't breathe.
"Oh my god I LOVE that song!"
"I know right it's the BEST!" The adrenaline from that drink was still inside me, and I had the erge to drink some more. After we got our breathe back, we went to get a plate of pizza and sat with Ty. The music kept playing and Tyler decided to join in on the conga line. Since that wasn't our thing, me and Brooke snuck out and ran out into the backyard. We found a swing bench hung by two enormous trees.
"Race ya?"
"Oh c'mon you know you'll lose Brooke, " I smirked. She gasped and began to sprint there. I ran after her and tackled her. Both of us layed sprawled on the grown, continuing to laugh our butts off. I'm a pretty happy person, but this drink, I don't even know, it like inhances the way things are seen. It's like a drug.
I turned my head and saw Brooke with her hands on her stomache laughing. Brooke was my best friend, and I've known her for what seems like forever.
But I have to be honest and say, sometimes, I wish we were more than friends.
I rolled over on my side to face her.
"Hey Brooke, can I as you something?" She sat up and crossed her legs.
"Totally."
Copying her actions, I sat up myself, "Would you run away with me?'
Her grey eyes widened, "What?"
"Like if something ever happened, and I needed someone, would you come with me?" There was a long and deafoning pause. She bit her lip and looked up, thinking.
Why does she have to bite her lip that way? Ugh
Irrisitable.
Then she looked at me with intense eyes. She quickly grabbed my hands and put her face within milimeters of mine. Her grey and still intense eyes locked on mine. I felt the spit choke in my throat and my breath go away.
"I'd go anywhere with you Jade," she whispered. She waited about 5 seconds until she wrapped me in her small arms. She hugged me for what seemed to be forever.

I fixed my hair in my steamy mirror. Hoping she would notice my hard work when she got here. I ran into my closet frantically looking for my black tie. I had my white button up collar shirt all ironed, my belt was on and tied and my jeans were clean and everything. All I needed was my tie. But my search was cut off when my Aunt alerted me she had arrived. I quickly put my shirt on and ran down the hall... where i found my tie hanging on the doorknob of my sister's room. I haistely wrapped it around my neck and made sure I looked presentable.
"How do I look?"
My aunt cupped her hands together, "You look very handsome."
I smiled and nodded. She left the house with Jaden through the back door to go see a movie. After I heard the door shut, I opened the one in front of me.
And when I did, my breath got taken away.
There she was, in a grey flowing dress that fell right above her knees. The color complitmented her gorgeous grey eyes. And her hair feel right under her jaw line in 20's styled curls, her natural hair. Then her smile was the cherry on top. I smiled back and gestured for her to come in. She slowly walked into the kitchen where I had the table set up. I pulled out the chair for her and she giggled. I took my seat and lit the candle in the middle.
"Wow fancy," she smirked.
"Well, what can i say, I had no idea I could cook and decorate." She burst into her contagious laughter. After a few minutes of being utterly childish we began to eat. We made some small talk like, "How was your day?" or, "The weather was nice." Soon our plates were clean and our cups were empty. The night was going by really fast.
"What time is it?"
She looked down at her watch and said, "Um, 9:12, why?" I got nervous just thinking about it.
I got up from my seat and went to the living room to sit on my couch. She followed me and knelt down beside me, worry in her eyes.
"Jade what's wrong?" One look, and I knew it was now or never. I stood up and she did the same. She kept her upwards gaze on me, waiting for my response.
I reached for her small hands and held them in mine, our eyes still locked on each other.
"Brooke..," I leaned down, wanting to kiss her. But i went down slowly, so if she didn't want to she could push me off.
She didn't though. She closed her eyes and got on her tippy toes, and the space between us closed. Her soft lips fit to mine perfectly. Wanting to be closer, I pulled her by the waist with my left hand and held her face with my right, she kept her arms around my neck. Shocks of electricity flew through every nerve of my body and as I pulled away and felt her heavy breaths, i could tell she felt it too.
If there was a way to live is this moment forever, I would do it.
She smiled up at me, then whispered into my ear, "I love you Jade."
"I love you too Brooke."
