7 YEARS LATER
"Where is he?"
"Brooke he's probably busy at the gym, you know he always goes there."
She began to tap her foot impatiently. Her food was left untouched and she looked around the mall food court. Tyler was no where to be seen.
"I'm gonna call him," she took out her phone and began to dial his number.
I grabbed her cell and shoved it in my basketball shorts.
"No you're not he said he'll get here."
"And what if he doesn't Jade?"
I held her hand reassuringly, "He will."
I looked at my watch and waited.
It wasn't until about half an hour after that I began to get restless.
"Maybe you're right."
She stood up and put her hands on her hips, "I told you! Ugh I hate him."
"You hate me? God that just breaks my heart."
Her mouth dropped and immediately changed to a grin.
"TYLER!!" She leaped into his arms and he hugged her tightly. He smiled at me once he set her down.
Even after all this time he was taller than me. I pulled him in for a bro hug and he held on for a little while.
"I missed you man."
"I missed you too."
Brooke laughed and picked up her shopping bags and sandwich,
"We got some great news for you, wanna go outside?"
"Yeah, I got some news for you too!"
We all walked to the outside tables and settled down. For a while we snacked on leftover chips and sipped cheap $1 sodas. We talked about old times and where we were going to school. Me and Brooke were rivals because our schools hated each other, but we were getting the same degree. Tyler had started going to the gym a lot and then decided to try out for basketball. He got in the varsity team senior year and continued throughout college. Currently he worked out a lot at his gym and was getting ready to start for Senior year in college. Even though we saw each other a lot, we always missed each other.
Tyler's parents moved to Alaska for the simple life and Brooke's brother Byron got a job as a lawyer. He moved to Boston with his wife once Brooke got her apartment.
My aunt got breast cancer my Sophomore year and died just after I graduated. It was hard, especially on my little sister, but she died happy, and in her sleep. Just the way she wanted.
My sister grew up quick and is just about to start high school. She currently lives with me since I'm her legal guardian but I'm saving up to buy her a place as soon as she graduates from high school. She really wants to go to California and go to UCLA and become an actress.
"Wow it feels like it's been forever."
"Tyler please, it's only been a few weeks."
Brooke laughed and bit into her freshly hot pizza.
"Yeah compared to EVERYDAY. We were never apart."
I sighed and leaned back, "I guess that's what happens when people get old." Tyler laughed and ran his hand through his hair.
Brooke stood up and held my hand.
"You know what else people do when they get old?"
"What Brookie?" He sipped his soda.
"THEY GET MARRIED!!!"
Tyler spit his drink and looked at us hysterically.
"WAT YALL R GETTIN MARRIED??"
Brooke nodded and squealed. Tyler hugged her and hugged me tightly.
"I'm so happy for you two!"
"Thanks bro. And we asked you to come today so I could ask you, my honorary brother, to be my best man."
Tyler gasped and hugged me again, "OF COURSE!!!!"
After we talked on the details f the wedding he bid us a goodbye and got in his truck.
"I'm so excited."
"Cuz we're getting married?"
"No. We get to have a wedding with ALTERNATIVE MUSIC!"
"So did you order your black dress?"
"Of course I did. I also got a call for your fitting."
I cringed and opened the car, "I don't think I'll look good in white."
"That's right," she hopped in the passenger seat, "You'll look great."
I put the keys in and she leaves over and kissed me.
"I love you."
"I love you too."
"You know what, we should have like a bachelor/ bachelorette party."
"Together?"
She nodded.
"We'll go out on a Saturday night. Just like old times." She turned up the music and rolled down the windows. As she sang along I smiled. All these years and we were still together. After the abandonment, depression, Saturday, brothers, highschool, college. Now we're getting married.
I can't wait till Sunday morning.
