Any Day Now

By the next week, Alastor and I had moved in together and were settled in. His apartment was double the size of mine, giving our little family plenty of room. I was in the baby's room, arranging stuffed animals and folding little onesies for our daughter while Alastor was doing something else in the other room. A little green dress accidentally slipped from my hands and fell on the floor. Sighing, I tried to bend over to get it, but my huge belly wouldn't let me.

"Alastor, can you come help me?" I called out, staring down at the little dress. I couldn't for our daughter to be born. I missed being able to do simple tasks like picking things up off the ground or touch my toes. Alastor came into the room, a smile on his face.

"Did you drop something else, (Y/N)?" He asked teasingly. I put my hands on my hips, but in my current state looked more comical than threatening. It only made him laugh out loud. Alastor picked up the dress, handed it back to me, and kissed me on the lips.

"It'll be any day now." I told him, placing a hand on my stomach. Alastor covered my hand with his and looked at me lovingly.

"Jasmine?" He threw out another name.

"She's not a Disney princess." I rolled my eyes.

"But she is our princess." He countered.

"Princesses don't have parents who kill people for money." I said, putting the little dress away with the others.

He thought for a moment, then replied, "Well then it seems there is an unexplored niche in the market." I rolled my eyes in response. Chuckling, Alastor kissed my forehead and went back to the other room. I silently ran through a list of names in my head, but none of them felt right for our daughter.

All of a sudden a sharp pain knocked the breath out of me. I sucked in air, trying to take deep breaths until it subsided. Then I realized there was warm liquid trickling down my legs. I looked down to see a pool at my feet.

"Alastor!" I cried out, "Come quick! I think my water broke!"
