"He ran out the back!" Alastor called out, hearing our latest victim escape out the back door of the run down shack we stood in front of. Jumping the fence, I took after him him, sprinting as fast as I could. Alastor took the other side, together chasing down the man we had been hired to kill.
I could see the bastard as he ran down a path lined with trees. I pushed harder, willing my legs to go faster. All of a sudden, a loud crack rang out and our quarry collapsed in a heap. I skidded to a stop at the body and peered around. Alastor wasn't far behind me, doing the same.
"I got him!" A cheerful, high pitched voice giggled from above. I looked up to see a thirteen year old Scarlett perched in a tree, holding the smoking gun. Her father and I smiled up at her.
"Well done, my dear." He praised her as she hopped down and handed him the gun.
"Our little killer in the making." I kissed her forehead, "I think that shot should be rewarded with some ice cream." Scarlett beamed up at me.
"With sprinkles?" She asked.
"With sprinkles." I confirmed. Then with a excited gasp, she turned and took off towards the car we had waiting for us.
"Such energy." Alastor shook his head, taking my hand as we strolled behind her. I smiled to myself. I might not have had the best life on Earth, but I had one hell of a life down below.
The End.
