CHAPTER 4

May's p.o.v

The shrilling sound of my alarm took me away from my dream land.

"Damn crazy alarm" I said as I sat straight on my bed rubbing my eyes. The time is 7:45, thirty minutes before the bus arrives. Well my car had a breakdown yesterday,so I have to board a bus to school or walk. The second option I can never choose. Call me lazy,duh.

"May Clarissa Daniels, if you don't get your fat butt down here, no breakfast for ya" my mum said in that do-not-dare-me-this-morning tone of hers.
My eyes widen at that. If I don't eat,I'm doomed. You can call that dramatic but I freaking love food.
"On my way mum" I ran to the bathroom.

"Well I see your mum knows how to make you hurry up. Mother knows best" my dad said as I sat on the chair

"Of course,when I have the power to deny her what she loves best" my mum said with that evil glint in her eyes as she gave me my french toast.

"Your car will be ready before you're back from school"

"Ok dad"
I finished my breakfast and kissed my parents goodbye before going to the bus stop.

The bus arrived not long after I got to the stop. I sat in the front row by the window with my earphone plugged in my ears as I listened to Malibu by Miley Cyrus.

When the bus got to school,I got down to find my best friends leaning on their car waiting for me. I made my way to them.

"Hey girls"
"Hey yourself,and where's your car" Sam asked
"Well my car broke down yesterday"
"Oh gosh so how did you get home" Leomie said
"Well I was almost home so I had to walk,but dad said it'd be brought home this afternoon"
"Ok,so what are you guys up to this weekend, maybe we should have a sleepover at my house" Sam says
"Not bad, I'll tell mum, Leomie you in or do you have a Luna training too"I said to Leomie
"Nope , I'm less busy and a sleepover will be so great ,I can't wait for a girly time. Luna duties are so tiring" she said. Just then the bell ringed for first period.

We all head to our various lockers. I have literature with Leomie while Sam has biology.

"So guys I'll just head to class now. See ya" she said as she went to join some girls who have same class as her. Leave it to Sam to know everyone.

I zoned out of the class, my mind was faraway as I replayed everything that happened in the hallway earlier.

Leomie and I were making our way to class when she spotted Jake and his friends.
"May"
"Uhn" I replied as I was rummaging through my bag
"Jake's at his locker,would you like to talk or later"
"I'll talk now" I pulled her along as I walked towards where they were.

"Hey" I said to him
"Hey babe, how you doing" he said as he hugged me
"I'm great, are you not going to class"
"Yes I will, I was just talking to my friends about my birthday,you know it's just two weeks away."
My heart dropped at the mention of his birthday. I totally forgot.

What if we end up not being mates. All these lovey dovey acts for nothing?.
He must have noticed my mood.

"May,calm down,I know you're stressed about this topic as I am too. You know we can't go against the moon goddess,left to me I'd really really want to be with you but there's nothing I can do. And who knows,we might be together" he tried to lift my spirit.
I didn't even know what to do or say, I just took hold of leomie's hand and we head to class. I ignored the calls of jake and the questions of Leomie.

"May dear, would you like to explain to the whole class your understanding of chapter 15" the teacher's question brought me out of my thoughts.
I shook my head and she moved on to ask another student. Out of the corner of my eye,I saw Leomie with a look of worry on her face as she looked at me. She opened her mouth to say something but decided against it.
I turned my head back to face the window.

This was lunch break and the three of is were sitting at our table with a plate of sandwich and orange drink in front of us. I haven't seen Jake since morning and I was beginning to get worried.
Maybe I overreacted, I shouldn't have walked away like that. He said the truth,it's the moon goddess' will that will be done. But I couldn't help it. Tears were beginning to form at the corner of my eyes .

"Spill" Sam said
"Uhn" I pretended not to understand what she meant
"May Daniels, you gotta spill what's bothering you this very moment" Sam said with a voice I know better than to argue with.

"Ok, this morning,Jake talked to me about his upcoming birthday,he talked about the mate stuff and I got pissed off and I walked away. I mean what if we don't end up as mates, that means everything we shared meant nothing, he'll leave me no doubt. I won't be able to stand it." I finished my speech with head bent down, my eyes focusing on the drink like it's something fascinating.

" May, we know you're feeling insecured right now,but I feel you should have at least seen reasons with him, if you guys don't eventually end up as mates ,it isn't his fault or yours. Who knows,you guys might end up as mates."

"So do i have to apologise?"

"Of course dear, this is hard for him as it is for you. So you guys just have to hope for the best. And whatever happens,happens for good" Leomie added.

"Ok but I haven't seen him since what happened,he's not here either." I said worried

"You know there's a technological device called a phone" Sam said in a duh tone

"Yeah whatever"

I sent a text to him instead

We need to talk - M

" I sent him a text already"

"Yeah babe now better eat that sandwich or pass it to me. My stomach's waiting"

We all laughed at that ,the bell rang and we went to class.
