This World

Cough. Cough. Cough.

You woke up choking on your own spit, your vision going a little fuzzy every time you hacked. You hit your chest with your fist a few times, forcing air to come through your throat as you tried clearing it. It was then you realized that you felt extremely dehydrated.

"Huh," You murmured, your gaze finding itself interested in the glass of water and single Excedrin pill lying on your bedside table, a small, folded-up piece of paper lying underneath both items.

You diligently picked up the full glass of room temperature water and the small, white pill, popping the capsule in your mouth and downing most of the glass afterwards. You let out a flushed "ah" as your mouth left the edge of the cup, your tongue peeking out to lick the excess water from your chapped lips. You placed the glass back on the table behind the note and picked up the folded paper like it was the most precious thing in the entire world. You opened it carefully, making sure not to rip any of the words contained inside. A small smile graced your lips as you noticed the inhumanely-perfect handwriting scrawled between the blue lines of the paper. You bit your tongue as you read his words in your head.

"Dear (Y/n),

I'm sorry for what happened back at the station. I know you would probably tell me that it wasn't my fault, but I still give you my sympathy. I'm additionally sorry for leaving you alone at your apartment last night. I was getting the feeling that you needed time to think for yourself for awhile, and I didn't want to further burden you.

With that being said, I left you some water and headache medicine knowing that you'll probably wake up with a painful headache due to your condition. I hope this doesn't worsen your concussion. It feels somewhat lonely with just Lieutenant Anderson and I working together on cases. You're our third partner. Both Hank and I miss working with you.

Lastly, in case you're wondering where I've gone, I've gone to locate the freighter known as Jericho. It's the stronghold containing many deviant androids, and I must find it in order to progress my mission. It is the supposed hideout of the deviant leader. Do not follow after me. I don't want you to get hurt any more than you already are. I suggest getting plenty of rest and staying hydrated. Do not attempt to drive or walk long distances alone. Don't make me have to worry about you when I return. In turn, don't worry too much about me. I will return to you and the Lieutenant tomorrow morning.

Sincerely,

Connor."

You snorted after reading his letter, stepping out of bed and grabbing a fresh change of clothes. You were going to follow after Connor. If that ship really was filled with a bunch a deviant androids, who was to say that he wouldn't immediately be persecuted and destroyed by their leader? You weren't going to take any chances. You were going to Jericho.

It was now 6:23 P.M. The sun had already set on its course, darkening the winter sky and further freezing the air whipping around your face. You had no plan, no course of action. Your only mission was to find this freight ship known as Jericho, find Connor, and bring him back to you. You thought he was absolutely mad; trying to find this ship located in the middle of some harbor was certainly some feat he was taking.

You dressed in disguise: an olive green beanie atop your head with your hair tucked neatly inside, a dark grey thermal shirt, a large, fleece jacket with your bulletproof vest protecting you underneath, fleece lined thermal leggings, long, grey socks that came up mid-calf, and your short leather boots. Your gun was holstered snugly against the right side of your stomach braced by a strap that locked the gun in place on the inside of your jacket. Sure, it wasn't the most convenient place for it, but you couldn't have your gun holstered to the side of your leg and cause suspicion within the freighter. You were prepared to fight both deviants and the cold.
