WORKING IT OUT

The day of the surprise party was filled with drama and confusion. Since that day I have not really said much to Twan or Sabrina. Sabrina did apologize for getting so upset with me and realized that she should have spoke with Twan earlier about the pregnancy. She did tell me that although there were rocky at the moment, they were still together. I guess that is probably why Twan decided not to return my calls or texts. I really wanted to fix things with him and let him know where my mind was when I decided not to tell him about the things Sabrina wanted me to keep secret. I just wanted to relieve some of her stress during the time of her treatment to make sure she did not relapse and could focus on just getting clean.

The weeks had went by and Sabrina and I still continued to coparent. Twan would see me and give me nothing more than a head nod. I could never really find the time to pull him aside since him and Sabrina seemed to be falling more in love with one another than ever. I think the birth of his son with Sabrina had completely changed him. Twan had completely stopped dealing drugs and had enough money saved up to open his own clothing store and family restaurant business. The months continued to fly by and I began to forget about us fooling around anymore. Twan had ended up proposing to Sabrina and a date was set for the wedding. Even though I was a little shocked I was almost too busy to think too much about the news. I was doing well and got promoted to district manager at my job and planned on possibly moving to another district during the first quarter of the next year. It would not be too far that Sabrina could not see our son but far enough for a new start for me.

The wedding date approached and Sabrina invited me to come. I almost said no but the way she sounded over the phone she really wanted me there but I did not think that Twan would. I picked out a suit and waited for the big day. I must admit I was still somewhat upset that the woman I thought would be my wife was marrying the man who was once her drug dealer and then my oral sex partner. A couple days before the wedding and I could see from instagram that one of Twan's friends were throwing him a party. I knew I would not get an invite so I just went on about my business and tried to build myself up to face him and Sabrina on their big day that should have been mine.

Friday before the wedding I spent at work starting to get trained for my new position. My mother had agreed to keep my son for the whole weekend. I was not quite ready to go home so I decided to ride around the city and clear my mind. I got food parked near the part of the city that looked so peaceful. I looked down and saw that one of my coworkers had texted me to come out with her. I went home showered and then went back out and met her at this nice spot I had been hearing about. We danced for a while and had a great time before I looked down and saw that it was approaching 2am. We both left and she had me dropped her off at a female friend of hers who she had been messing around with. I smiled as she got out the car and was somewhat jealous that she was getting some action tonight and not me.

I got to my apartment building and then got to my door and almost jumped when I saw Twan standing there.

"Twan what the hell are you doing here and this late?"

"Party ended and I did not want to go back to Sabrina's place and wake her and the baby", he said slurring.

He smelled like straight up dark liquor.

"Twan how did you end up here when you were surrounded by friends. You could have spent the night with one of them."

"Man most of them will be fucking tonight. They do not want me with them cock blocking and shit. I am here now and no one is going to be able to drive me back. Lenny the couch will work fine and as soon as I sober up and it's morning I will go."

"Twan you have not said a damn thing to me in weeks...hell in months..."

"We can talk inside man. Please man I just need someplace to sleep this off for a few hours."

I looked at him leaning near my door and decided to let him in.

"Take a seat", I said.  I took a seat at the dining room table and motioned for him to take the chair across from me.

"Thank you for letting me stay here tonight" he said.

"You welcome but I think we still have some unfinished convos that we need to have but maybe I should wait until you sober up after you rest."

"Just because I took about four shots of cognac and a couple of mixed drinks does not mean I can not comprehend Lenny."

"Well then I will jump right into it. Why the hell have you avoided talking to me since the party."

"I felt somewhat betrayed by you. Even though we were just fooling around I think you still owed it to me to tell me the truth."

"Twan I kind of just didn't want to compromise Sabrina's progress so I took on the responsibility of being someone she could vent to. I mean we were together well before you and her got together so she felt comfortable confiding in me."

"So that gave you the permission to hid all that you did."

"To be real with you Twan, yes. I do believe that she was my main concern. To remind you she is the mother of my child."

"Who also happened to cheat on you...."

"With you, remember that?", I said.

"Yeah I remember, you couldn't resist my dick either. Remember that?"

"Ok...so what you saying to me is that you want to be put out of my apartment. Is that what I am hearing?"

"Chill Lenny. You wanted to start with me."

"Enough of the jokes. I will be the bigger man and apologize for not letting you know what was going on with Sabrina. You must have forgave her and moved on because you getting ready to make her your wife. Congratulations."

"Thank you. I know you do not think the most of me but I do love her."

"Well then this next question will not come as a surprise to you. Have you stopped fucking around on her?"

"If you must know Lenny, yes. In fact I have not even fucked around with anyone since you."

"Glad to hear that man."

"You been fucking anyone?"

"With all due respect that is not your business."

"You just asked me almost the same question. Why can't I ask you Lenny?"

"Because I am not the one getting married. I have no ties to anyone."

"You have a point. I can admit that", he said smiling.

"You really going to do this huh? Marry Sabrina?"

"Yes I feel like this is something I have not done before and knowing that I have a daughter now makes me want to be a better person."

"I can understand that. When Sabrina and I got serious and she gave birth to our son, I wanted nothing more than to be a happy family."

"Aye man you still are a good father and I know it sounds strange coming from the man who she cheated on you with but maybe you will find someone out there who is actually your soulmate and someone you are compatible with."

"Thanks Twan. That means a lot coming from you. Listen, no more fucking around with each other either."

"Don't get big headed I can resist you as I have been for the last few months", he said laughing.

We talked for a while longer and squashed any beef that we all had and then it got late and it was bed time for me.
