Spencer
-THAT NIGHT-
I was so nervous, I mean I hadn't seen Toby in 4 years and then the day after I meet him again I invite him to join us for dinner. I could say that 3 children were extremely happy, and 1 wasn't, Olivia. She locked herself in the bathroom since I told that their dad would've been at the house for dinner. I don't blame her, I mean god, he scared the hell out of her. But I still have the hope that he will not do anything stupid tonight, because if he screws this chance up, I will kick him out of the door and never letting him in again. I start to cook and I decide to make Mac and cheese. "Mommy" Hazel asks me while I was taking the cheese from the fridge "Do you think the dad hates me?" she asks. I freeze and turn around. "Why would you think that?" I ask concerned "Because Olivia told me that he hates us" Hazel says while tears start to run down her cheek, "No, baby girl, no of course he doesn't hate you, any of you okay? Now come here" I say pulling her into a hug and she cries with her face in the crook of my neck. "Listen, why don't you put on that beautiful dress that you use for the special occasions?" I say wiping her tears, she smiles and goes to her room, and I go to the bathroom pissed as hell to Olivia. "Olivia Susan Cavanaugh, it's time for you to get out of there! I need to talk to you!" I say with a severe tone of the voice "Now" I add and I hear the door unlocking. "What?" she asks "You can't tell your siblings that your dad hates you okay?" I say "But he does!" she says sadly "He doesn't!" I state "Why would he leave us if he doesn't?" she says starting to cry, I pick her up and cuddle her, I still could do this with her, she was so skinny and weightless and it was her disease's fault. "I'm not gonna like to dad" she says and I put her down "What are you talking about?" I ask "I don't like to anyone, and with dad it's not gonna be different" she says crying. "Wait, back up, is this why you don't want him to come?" I ask. She nods. "Oh my god, Liv, no, it's not like you think okay? dad is gonna love you and all of you okay?" I say hugging her one more time and then when we pull away she takes me by surprise asking me "And what about you? Is he gonna love you too?" I look at her shocked and just tell her "Now go get dressed, we'll talk later" "You didn't answer my question" she says but I already was on my way to the kitchen.
I hear a knock on the door, I take a deep breath and then go to open the door, I see Toby standing in front of me and I let him come inside. I go to the children's room and I look at them "Okay, your dad is here" I say they all look at me with excited expressions, Daniel on top of all, all besides Olivia. She still didn't want to know her dad but he was here so she would've meet him that she liked it or not. Daniel, Hazel and Megan run to the kitchen while Olivia just slowly walks. "Hey everyone" Toby says "Are you our dad?" Daniel asks "Um.. yes, yes I am" he says and looks at me, I nod and then Daniel starts to tell him everything about his life, his hobbies, his favourite food, sport, colour, and he just kept talking until we went to dinner. "It's ready" I say and everybody comes to the kitchen, Daniel sits between Toby and Megan, Hazel on the other side always near to Toby and me and Olivia were in front of them. Megan and Hazel start to talk too. And they talk like they never had with any stranger, and Toby is acting great. "What about you Olivia?" he asks when they were talking about sports "What sport do you like to play" I look at Toby and give him an 'Don't say anything like that anymore' look and then I say "Toby... um... she doesn't do sport..." and he open his mouth to say something, he was sorry I could see it from his expression, "Sorry, Olivia" he says and she doesn't even looks at him. Her disease was that bad that she couldn't even do any kind of sport. After that awkward moment nobody talked until the end of the dinner. Then I said "Okay, well it's time for you to go to bed" to the kids "Noooo, please mommy we just want to see some TV! Pleaseee!" Daniel says but I say back "No tomorrow it's Wednesday and you have to go to school, come on go to put on you pyjamas" and they all sadly go to their room. Toby looks at me and says "Can I help you with the plates?" "Yes, please" I say accepting his help to clear the table. While we put the dishes in the sink he says "I'm really sorry about what I said before Spencer, believe me" "I know" I reply. I don't look at him while I can feel his eyes staring at me. I try not to make eye contact because I know that every time that I look into those ocean eyes I completely melt. "Spence, look at me" He begs and I turn my head to face him, our faces are dangerously close and he leans in even more until I hear a voice "Get a room!" Hazel says, I blush and pick her up leading her to the bed. "Hazel, stop laughing nothing happened" I say but she laughs even more "Stop" I laughing a bit too. "Were you kissing?" she asks "No we weren't" I quickly answer "Whatever" Megan says "Go to sleep. All of you." I say turning the light of the kid's room off and closing the door, I go back to the kitchen and I notice that Toby had finished to clear the table "Thank you" I say "It's nothing" he replies.
