Lillian woke in a bed. She shot up and looked around for William, her father walked in. "Father is he okay, Is William hurt?" Lillian said winching in pain. "No my child, I just gave in a warning." her father said with a smile. "Why do I have a feeling that you said something to him that was not good." Lillian said as she looked at her father fire in her eyes. "I just told him about Henry." Her father said with a smile. "You... didn't threaten him."
Lillian was left a lone, it was two days before the ball and she need to rest. She kept on thinking of William. She felt so bad about the things she said to him.
-two days later-
Lillian was put in her finest dress, a dark blue with black embroidery. She refused to wear the powder wing that her father bought for her. She let her brown hair down and walked to the door. The warm air from the house was comforting. Eliza ran up to her, she wore a dress more suited for everyday work than for a ball. "It so good to see you. Your father said you where not felling well do you need anything to drink?" Eliza said as they walked back into the hall. "Miss Anderson it is a pleasure to meet you." A man with a French accent said.
Lillian looked to her right and saw a man. "I am sorry Sir, I do not recall your name," Lillian said blushing. "Oh, you wound me. Mademoiselle, I am Marquis Lafayette. May I have this Dance. " He said holding out his hand. She looked over at Eliza but she had run off somewhere. "It would be a pleasure," Lillian said as she put her hand gently in his. They danced and Lillian held back from winching in pain as she spun around the floor. The music ended and Lafayette bowed. "Come meet my friends. Alexzander!" Lafayette said leading her across the room. "It is a pleasure." A man with red hair sticking out from his wig said. "I heard many great things about you from my father," Lillian said with a smile.
The party went on for hours and Lafayette walked her back. "It is was a pleasure," Lillian said pushing the door open. "Same for me Mademoiselle," Lafayette said as he walked away. William walked down the street. He saw Lillian talking to a French man. She walked into a house. Her father came out, "Thank you for taking Lillian home. I am sorry, I just didn't feel good tonight," Her Father said. "It was my pleasure, she is very interesting for someone of her standard of a lady, I shall be on my way good night," Lafayette said with a smile.
The next day Lillian got dress when there was a knock at the door. She quickly pulled on her dress and laced up the back. "Lillian come downstairs." Her father said coughing. Lillian rushes to the stairs and saw General Washington and Lafayette. "Sorry, I was packing," Lillian said as she composed her self. "I just came here to tell you that Major General Lafayette will accompany you to Boston on my orders." General Washington said as Lillian looked at him. "Thank you and I hope you and your family are in good health, Major General please follow me." Her father said as General Washington left.
Lillian walked to the Carriage that evening Lafayette helped her in and got in as well. They rode in quite. "I heard what you did in Boston in the siege, it was very brave of you," Lafayette said with a smile. "I couldn't leave them out there, it is not safe. I just saw it as a duty to the war no one wanted to take." Lillian said as she looked away. "It almost got me killed, someone who I trusted try to kill me and was shot in the siege."
Lafayette looked at her up and down. "Even the women of the States have scars some invisible some not." Lillian looked out the window her eyes full of pain, "They try to get information from me, saying I would be paid accordingly."
The carriage came to a stop and Lafayette fell from his seat and quickly got up. "Miss a Redcoat!" The coachman said as a knock came to the door. Lafayette opened the door and stepped out. He let Lillian out she shivered from the cold. William stood shocked, "Miss Anderson, I need to speak with you alone." William said looking at Lafayette. "I do not give you permission to talk to my fiance," Lafayette said grabbing Lillian's hand. "What? Lillian is this true?" William turned pale. Lillian said nothing for a moment. "Yes... Captain Everheart. It is true and I am very happy with my fathers choice." Lillian said grabbing Lafayette's hand. "What? how are you okay with this you always said you hated the idea of arranged marriages." Willam said as she looked at him.
Lillian looked down, "You are not happy to stop lying, Lillian, I still love you!" William said as Lafayette pushed her behind him. "Get back in the carriage. We need to get back to Boston." Lafayette said as William looked pissed of. "Sir I challenge you for Miss Anderson's hand!" William said taking off his glove. "No! Please don't this doesn't have to end with bloodshed!" Lillian yelled. "It will be okay Lillian," Lafayette said grabbing his pistol from the carriage.
Tears ran down Lillian's cheeks as she looked at the guns. Images of her brother covered in blood rushed through her head. She let out a scream as they both turned around. William missed and Lafayette shot into the air. "Miss Anderson, what is wrong? Miss Anderson!" The coachman said as he grabbed her by the shoulder. She screamed again and ran into the carriage and covered her ears. She could feel the burning pain in her shoulder and see her brother. "Just go! I need to go home! Now!" Lillian yelled from the Carriage. "Okay, lets go.." Lafayette said geting in the Carriage.
