(a/n) this will have some Christmas themes, since I started writing this around Christmas.
Gray's POV
its almost been a full year since natsu lost his voice, but it'll also be a full year since we started dating. I sat down at one of the empty tables and rested my head on my arm as I watched natsu acting like his usual happy-go-lucky self with Lucy and happy. It made me smile seeing him so happy. Erza came over and sat down next to me with a smirk " gray, your staring" she nudged me with her elbow. I snapped out of my adorable dragneel trance and looked at her with an uninterested expression " what do you want?" I asked and she sighed," the anniversary of natsu becoming mute is approaching. which means your anniversary is also approaching." I leaned back against the chair and glanced over at natsu, who was scarfing down as much food as he could without choking. I smiled gently and turned back to erza," I know and I cant wait"

today was the big day, and im really nervous. I walked along through the streets of magnolia as the snow drifted down, I held out my hand and watched small snowflakes fall onto my palm. than I felt someone wrap their arms around me in a jump hug, I turned around and hugged them back. I stroked the messy-spiky pink hair of my boyfriend and smiled at how cute he was. he looked up at me smiling and responded with a wide grin before he pulled me down a bit and pecked me on the lips. I blushed a bit as we turned to walk towards the guild, holding hands and smiling like idiots. we got a couple of stares from people who were passing by, you would think that after a year of this people would get used to this but nope. I guess they still see us as the frostbite and the pyro that destroy everything when they fight, but I think the last time we had a fight was for who was going to get the last meat stick. I ended up giving it to him, damn those puppy dog eyes.
we walked into the guild and almost everyone greeted us or hugged natsu. juvia took this opportunity to come jump onto me, after she gave natsu a small hug. "gray-sama!" she yelled as I tried to pull her off me, she knows that im dating natsu and was cool with it but still does this out of habit, I guess. natsu came over to me and wrapped my arms around himself, pouting. juvia looked at us and giggled a bit than walked off, in the background I can here Lucy squealing. I chuckled as a visible blush appeared on natsu's face.
a little while later everyone threw a big party for natsu. they pulled out a bunch of drinks and food, everyone was eating and messing around with me and natsu in the center. he looked so happy, and I gave him a genuine smile whenever he looked my way. this lasted for a couple of hours, until half of the guild ended up drunk,wasted and or unconscious from the fight that broke out over someone causing erza to drop her cake. natsu fell asleep on my lap, I stroked his soft, fluffy pink hair. "its almost time" I thought as I looked at the sun setting from out a window. natsu stirred awake and looked up at me and mouthed "gray" than his face fell, this happened once in a while when he forgets that he cant speak. I bent down and pecked his lips," don't be sad natsu. I love you." he looked at me happily, and smiled the biggest, cutest smile than he stood back up.
I stood up too, knowing that it was time for natsu's big surprise. I grabbed his hand and pulled him out of the guild, at a fast pace. natsu kept up with me, stumbling now and than as we were reaching our destination. I stopped abruptly, causing natsu to stumble over. he looked up at me rapidly with a semi-angered face, than his gaze softened when he looked at me than to the frozen lake behind me. his eyes widened as he looked back at me," surprise!~happy anniversary natsu" I smiled. natsu ran up to me and hugged me, mouthing 'thank you so much!' or 'I love you gray!' I lifted his head up slightly and kissed him gently for a second," this isn't over yet, there's more" I said as I bent down and used my ice make magic to make natsu's boots into ice skates.
after I did, he wobbled a bit to catch his balance and grabbed onto my arms for support. I held him steady as I made my own snow boots into ice skates than we slowly made our way onto the ice. we both stepped onto the ice, natsu wobbled a bit but his smile never left his face. after a little while he got the hang of it and slowly started skating on his own; I skated to the center of the lake with natsu following behind. than I stopped and grabbed natsu's hand, intertwining our fingers. he looked at me as I bent down on one knee and took out a little ring box. "natsu I know we've only been dating for a year, but I've cared about you ever since we first met. even though you lost your voice I still love you with all my heart. so will you marry me, flame brain?"his eyes filled with tears as he nodded 'yes' than flung himself onto me.
I know I made the right choice, now we can be happy together.
