Kaelyn was getting ready for her date with Reggie when she heard his usual honk, hisown signal that he's here. She looked over the balcony door and he was in alittle red car with the top down. He looked up at her as he jumped out of theconvertible, a bouquet of flowers in his hands. She smiled and popped back intothe room.
Reggie was glad, it seemed Kaelyn has forgiven him. She came out thefront door a few minutes later. As usual she took his breath away, today in asunshiny yellow dress.
Reg: My princess. (holding out the flowers)
Kae: New car?
Reggie beamed proudly
Reg: Yeah, I only use it for special occasions. (he opened the car door for her, closed it then hopped into his without opening the door)
They headed to a picnic at Hampstead Heath, where Reggie had prepared a nice picnic basket of her favourite food, and a bottle of champagne.
Kae: What's all these? Champagne too?
Reg: Yeah, we didn't get to properly celebrate me getting out of jail.
Kae: OK. Happyget-out-of-jail then. (raised her glass)
Reg:(laughing, clinks glasses) Thank you.
They ate a little, chatted a lot, then Kaelyn laid down on Reggie's lap, her head turned towards the view of the city. Reggie brushed her hair gently with his fingers, feeling its silkiness and feeling a rush of love for her.
Finally as the sun began to set, they started to pack up their picnic. Kaelyn was standing with her hand shielding the sun from her eyes so she could have a good look at the city and the view of Tower Bridge. Reggie gingerly removed the jewellery box from his pocket and knelt behind her.
Reg: Kae?
Kae: (turning to look at him and found him kneeling, the opened box in his hand, and a beautiful vintage ring in it) Oh.
Reg: Kae, I love you so much so much. I would never have thought that the uneducated East End boy with the Cockney accent and weird slangs would end up falling in love with the posh West End private-school educated heiress, but I have, and I adore you. You brighten my life with so much love and positivity, I feel like I can do everything with you by my side. Kaelyn Faith Astor, will you marry me?
Kaelyn pressed the back of her hand against her lips, touched. And so happy. Reggie looked so earnest and she loved him. Despite how it all started, she ended up falling for him too.
Kae: Yes!
Reggie grinned and slipped the ring on for her. He stood up and she threw her arms around his neck and they kissed.
Reg: (nosing her) I love you.
Kae: I love you too.
That night as they got home, Kaelyn pulled Reggie into the house, excited to share the news. Freddie and Catherine were in the sitting room.
Kae: Daddy, mummy!
Cat: What's up darling? Why are you so excited?
Kaelyn held out her bejewelled hand, and Catherine squealed.
Cat: Oh, he proposed?!
Reggie walked in then and smiled.
Fred: Finally....let me see the ring.
Kaelyn showed it to him, her eyes bright with excitement.
Fred: (tenderly to his daughter) Are you happy?
Kae: Of course daddy.
Fred: OK. (looked over at Reggie and nodded)
Cat: (hugging Reggie) Congratulations Reggie.
Reg: Thank you Catherine.
Fred shook Reggie's hand, and Kaelyn smiled. Their families would be joined together after all.
They were planning for a fall wedding. It was the wedding of the year, the marriage of 2 of the most prominent names in society. Though the Kray's name was more notorious than famous, they were still prominent. And of course the Astors, with their share of the aristocratic and wealthy members of the family, were famous in all of London if not Britain.
