There were more than 300 guests at the wedding. Reggie stood by his father-in-law-to-be and greeted the guests, with Freddie telling him the who's who of London's elite. Ronnie sat at the aisle besides his mum and dad, given strict warning by Reggie to behave. He scowled at everyone who looked at him, kept in place only because his Ma had her hand on his lap.
The wedding venue was a dream, Reggie had left it all to Kaelyn and her mother to plan, but he tried to be involved as much as he could to show Kaelyn he cared. Kaelyn didn't bother him with too much details and wasn't the see-sawing bride, and he trusted her to come up with something very elegant and practical, like the person she was. He turned up for tuxedo fittings and rehearsals. She made him choose the cake flavour and approve the reception menu. He said lemon meringue and was promptly told they didn't make that as it was too heavy, but turned out she managed to get them to make a cake that was tri-flavoured, with lemon meringue at the bottom layer, strawberry chiffon the second layer and vanilla chiffon at the top. He wanted heavy food for the reception, not flimsy canapés and she obliged, and he would later be delighted to see that they included beef pie and mash and jellied eels. Gosh how he loves his wife.
Erwin walked by and indicated for Reggie to go take his place as Kaelyn was arriving.
Reggie stood up front, Ronnie his best man by his side.
Reg: (To Ron) Thanks for doing this Ron. It means a lot of me.
Ron: You're my only brother. Who else would I do this for?
Reg: I am so happy today.
Ron: Well, I guess youcould have done worse.
Reggiesmiled, that was as close to an approval from Ron as he could get. He knewRonnie respected Kaelyn, which was a rarity since 1. He barely interacted withthe opposite sex and has no regard for anyone of the femalesex. 2. He respected bravery and he saw that in Kaelyn.
Her mother walked in and took her seat beside Erwin. The celebrant indicated for everyone to stand, and a violin and cello started playing Pachelbel's Canon in D. The church door opened and all eyes were on Kaelyn and her father.
As she walked down the aisle, there were gasps and reactions of admiration. She was in a beautiful vintage gown, her hair tumbling in curls, wrapped by vintage lace, the veil cascading down.
Reggie swallowed hard and willed himself to breathe. She was so beautiful. Ronnie grunted next to him, even Ronnie was appreciating the view.
She got close to him andsmiled, he smiled forlornly back at her. She was going to be his wife. Freddiehanded her hand over to Reggie, and he whispered take care of her to him. Eventhe hardcore gangster like Freddie had tears in his eyes.
The wedding wasbeautiful, there were joyful tears and claps and wolf-whistles. The receptionwas held in a garden with only 100 guests invited so it was a cosier affair.
EvenRonnie was happy that there was his favourite food at the reception. He wasslurping jellied eels down, and Reggie smiled and looked at his new wife. Sheturned to look at him, feeling the intensity of his stare. He pressed hisforehead on hers, and kissed her.
Reg:Thank you for putting Ronnie's favourite grub on the menu
Kae:No problem. I think my Uncle George is quite fancying them as well. It's hisfirst time trying the eels and he loves it. So Ron better hurry and eat morebefore more of my relatives find out about it.
Reggie laughed. How luckycan he get? This was a woman who loves him, understands him, and goes out ofher way to accommodate him, despite being a rich, educated, heiress in her ownright.
Kae: Mmmm...your ma is so sweet as well. She gave me this. (held her wrist up to showhim the gold bracelet, it was not Kaelyn's style at all, but she wore itanyway)
Reggie's heart melted. And his family loves her and she was kind to them. When they were preparing for the wedding, she tried to get his Ma involved as well, and they were sitting in the house having tea and discussing what sort of flowers. Ma was quite traditional and old-fashioned, but Kaelyn was so patient to sit through with her.
His heart was bursting with joy to see the two women he loved together. Ma really loves Kaelyn, telling everyone that her Reggie found a West End girl to love him, that she looked like a movie star perfect for her handsome Reggie.
Ronnie was in a good mood that night, so Kaelyn grabbed him for a dance too. He obliged reluctantly, after Reggie told him to, that he is not to refuse his sister-in-law anything. Reggie grinned as he watched his awkward brother holding Kaelyn at arm's length, swaying to the music.
Kae: You ok with us Ronnie?
Ron: Wha?
Kae: Me joining your family.
Ron: Yeah, you're good enough for the Krays. Ma loves you, that's good enough.
Kaelyn laughed, happy to be accepted.
The couple headed off toItaly for 2 weeks' honeymoon, sailing by the Amalfi Coast, viewing the ruins inRome, and having wine by the Tuscan countryside.
