It was an uneventful 2 weeks, Reggie had reassured Kaelyn that Ronnie was taking his meds as enforced by his mother. She joined their family dinner every Sunday and Ronnie seemed normal, loudmouth and brash still but definitely under control.
Reggie's mum is always so kind and she felt comfortable with his family. Reggie also headed to have dinner with her family, and even Erwin was talking more to him.
But trouble was brewing.
Ronnie had decided to get more directly involved in the protection racket, and he decided to expand further east towards the wharf, where the territory lines were blurred with Richardson's gang. He took over the vendors by the bayfront, proud of himself for the expansion. However, 1 week later Richardson's gang, led by George Cornell, without the approval of the brothers, heard about it and went to hassle the vendors. He took a gang to thrash up the place and one of the vendors ran to Ronnie for protection. Ronnie was pissed. Richardson's gang had always been the Kray's nemesis.
So Ronnie got Frank to drive Ian Barrie and him in search of George Cornell (the Richardson's right hand man). Frank had no idea what Ronnie was up to, but Ian got word that George was drinking at his usual pub The Blind Beggar, and so they headed there. Frank was ordered to wait in the car. Frank had expected some sort of confrontation, but he jumped in his seat when he heard 4 gunshots rang out from inside the pub.
Then to his relief, Ronnie and Ian ran out. At least his boss was not the one that was hit, but that meant...shit. He drove them out of there where Ronnie ordered him to head back to his apartment. Frank called Albie the minute he could, but word had soon spread around East London. Ronnie had shot George Cornell in the head, right between the eyes.
Kaelyn and Reggie was waiting at the bar of the Madison Hotel, waiting for their table when Albie headed in. He looked really worried which didn't bode well. Albie always had a poker face about him, but he was looking really worried right now. He whispered to Reggie, whose face paled as well. Kaelyn heard some words pertaining to Ronnie and shooting, and her heart fell. This is not good.
R: Baby I have to go back home.
K: I'm coming.
R: No, you stay and have a good dinner. I'll get Frank to join you.
K: (firmly) I'm coming.
R: OK, let's go.
In the car,
K: What happened Reggie?
R: I'm trying to find out.
K: Where's Ronnie?
R: At home. I'm going to kill him myself.
Kaelyn looked at Reggie, and grew both angry and frightened. Reggie look terrified, like he had lost all control. He had tears in his eyes, he knew this was breaking point. Ronnie had shot someone in public. How were they to get rid of this problem?
K: What did he do, Reggie?
Reggie heard the anger in her voice.
R: He shot George Cornell.
K: From the Richardson brothers?
R: Yes. And he shot him in a pub!
K: Fuck.
R: Kaelyn, please go home and let me handle this please.
Kaelyn's thoughts were in a mess. How would they get out of this? The Kray brothers were already in Scotland Yard's radar for the longest time and this time, with so many witnesses. But...only Ronnie has to pay for it. Ronnie was the one who shot those gangsters. How would she convince Reggie to let Ronnie take the fall?
