— one month later

it was 12am in the avery household. everyone was sleeping peacefully, except for one boy who was kept awake from the thunderous clouds and roaring rain.

jack tried his best to block out the noise. he hid his head under a pillow, put on some headphones and blasted music, but nothing seemed to work as he kept on being reminded of the storm by the flicker of lightning from his window and rain pounding on top of him.

his hands were shaking, his fear of storms was still thriving ever so greatly. ever since he was 4 he'd have this dreadful fear of rain and thunder, especially lightning. he felt it was childish, but did it really matter?

jack covered himself in blankets and started to tear up. he just wished that he could fall asleep.

the next day he arrived at school looking like a monster. he had bags under his eyes from lack of sleep, his hair was in a bun due to it being super messy, and overall jack felt like death.

zach walked in looking the exact same. jack looked at him, raising his eyebrows. zach walked over and whispered, "look, i know this is quite personal, but were you like, crying last night? or like, scared in a way?"

jack looked at zach in shock, "y-yeah, why?"

"well, it seems that -- from what i've read -- i can feel your emotions as well. like, i'll take last night for an example. i was just on my phone, watching netflix when i suddenly felt extremely sad and scared. i had no clue what was causing it! i was shaking and soon i was crying, it made me scared, which doubled the feeling that i was already experiencing."

jack stared at zach with wide eyes, "why couldn't we do that before?"

"apperently it's only when you've met your soulmate and known for like, a month or something. and, well..."

jack blushed and nodded, "okay, i think i've got all of that."

they got seated at their desks and took out their math books. zach looked up at jack, before grabbing the iconic pink marker and writing on his arm.

the tingling sensation falled throughout jack's arms. he would describe it as if your hand had just fallen asleep, and the after affect of it all is just tingling and feeling really uncomfortable, but the difference is that it wasn't uncomfortable at all. it felt amazing.

jack looked down and read, "why didn't you draw to me when you were scared?"

jack grabbed his blue marker and in small letters wrote back, "why didn't you?"

"i was nervous" was what zach wrote.

jack silently scoffed and wrote back, "and you think i wasn't?"

"sorry..."

by now jack's arm was full of writing, and they had to move onto his hand, "it's okay."

"i was thinking a lot last night too" zach wrote suddenly in cursive.

"why?" jack wrote in absolute terrible cursive. zach snorted loudly before becoming serious once again,

"because i love you."

jack's eyes grew wide as he stared at his arm.

"but we only met, or truly met a month ago?"

letters and words popping up each second, it was hard for jack to read them all, "we've known each other our whole lives, sure we've only truly met in person a month ago, but we still have been drawing to each other way before that. you are so, so special to me jack, and those eight letters don't have enough power behind them to showcase how much i truly, do love you. so yes it may be "early," but our bond isn't."

jack read the reply in disbelief, how could he have been so goddamned lucky?

"you're a special one, zach. truly, completely and utterly special. i admire that, always did."

as they looked up at each other from the desks and smiled broadly. their arms full of words that have a beautiful meaning, that could cost a fortune. just like their love, rare, pure, and most definitely beautiful.
