Zoey's P.O.V.
Jay Arc and his family have been announced missing and the whole town views me as a criminal that killed them. My boyfriends and their families disappear without a trace and people have blamed me for the disappearance.
I live in a small town in Oregon along with my little sister, Kona. We both stand out in a crowd here due to the fact only few people live here with blue eyes and blonde hair.
I work hard in school so I can afford a scholarship for college next year. I'm top of my class and I've won medals in my sport, track and field.
My parents both died 4 years ago inside a burning house.
"When was the last time you talk to Mr. Arc?" questioned Mr. Beins. He had black hair and a beard that matches with it. His eyes were green and he had a tan skin tone with a masculine body.
"I told you several times already, I saw him 2 days ago. We were giving each other space because we needed to think things over," I replied. "Some witnesses claim you two were at a cáfe shop last night!" declared Mrs. Huffman. She is a tall lady with blonde hair and blue eyes.
"I went with my best friend, Davon Hamore, to the cáfe. Yes, Jay was there but we didn't talk, he was with his group of friends." I answered as I tried to suppress an eye-roll.
As soon as the detectives released me, Davon drove me to my house. Our house is small with cream colored walls and one bedroom and bathroom. It was the only house I could afford.
Davon sometimes stays overnight since his parents are usually overseas dealing with business. Girls swoon over him because of his tall, masculine figure.
As for me I prefer his strong jawline and his talent. My best friend is gifted when it comes to playing a musical instrument along with an amazing voice. His family has been the ones helping my sister and I. Our parents were close since our fathers are both business men.
"Zoey! make the bad people go away. They shouldn't hurt the innocent," cried Kona. My sister is only 6 years old while I'm 17 years old. A big age gap due to our parents lack of interest for each other. Kona has black hair like mine but her skin was more fair than mine. I inherited my dad's olive-tan skin.
"It's ok my angel. They won't harm me because they can't prove someone that's innocent to being guilty," I said as I tried to comfort her.
"How about your sister and I cook your favorite meal today," suggested Davon, "Then you and I can bake a delicious cake."
Kona quickly headed to the kitchen to prepare all the materials and ingredients needed for dinner and dessert. I looked at Davon and gave him a smile and in response he ruffled my hair. While cooking with Davon I slowly started to forget my problems but something felt off.
After dessert I told Kona to brush her teeth before going to bed and asked Davon if he could sit outside with me at the backyard. There were two wooden chairs outside and a small coffee table between it. Our backyard had a porch and one maple tree that didn't have any leaves.
We both sat there and stared at the stars. Looking at stars was a way for me to calm down and relax. Today was a stressful day ever since Jay was announced missing along with his family. People harassed me with false accusations and the detectives believe that I'm the criminal behind the missing people.
"Zoey, you know you can tell me what's wrong. You've been so quiet ever since we left police station. You know I care about you since we've been best friends since we were kids and you're making me worried right now," sad Davon. "I don't know why they blame me. It's fine if they bother me but not my little sister. She's too young to understand this situation. I just wish my parents..." I started to cry uncontrollably. Davon quickly ran inside to get a guitar since he knows it will calm me done. He played "Can't Help Falling in Love", one of my favorites. His singing quickly soothed me like it always does. "Thanks Davon but why do always stay by my side?" I questioned him.
