Nandini

Black clouds have started to cover the sky, giving the hint of dusk making it's way soon, but that still does nothing different to my surroundings, as they keep quite like they always have.

The silence surrounding this area, often makes me think if there humans around here at all, until this afternoon when those bunch of men showed up.

I still wonder from where did they appear, because as far as I know, I hadn't seen any houses around, or felt any kind of presence until the guy walking by my side made his way towards me.

I glance at the unknown guy walking two steps in front of me, who hasn't said one word since we've started our journey back.

If I hadn't heard him talk earlier, I would probably think he's mute, but I'm pretty sure in this case he's either trying to scare me or just being rude.

Does guys in this area only know how to scare or be rude?

I halt my steps when I he stops moving and look up to find the big black door from which I had escaped earlier.

A sudden shiver runs down my spine thinking of the consequences I'll have to face once I enter this door again.

Somewhere down the line, I know Manik won't do anything to me, but there's a part of that's just scared to death of the outburst I'll have to go through.

I try to calm my brain down by taking deep breaths as the big door opens inviting us to walk through the path leading to the mansion.

The unknown guy starts walking some steps ahead of me, while I follow him with a slow pace joining my hands and praying to all the gods up there to protect me from what's coming my way.

We both stop in front of the main door, and while he rings the bell on the side, I try to put on a strong face not wanting Manik to get the idea of me being scared of him.

Soon, the door is opened by a familiar face I've grown affectionate towards, making me relax a little bit, but that doesn't even last a second as I hear a shattering sound letting me know that trouble awaits me and Maria's worried face confirms my hypothesis.

As I step forward and place one of my feet inside the house, she gives me a brief hug without uttering anything, for which I'm thankful, because right now my mind is completely occupied with thoughts of an angry Manik.

I keep taking slow steps until his angry face comes into view and everything disappears around me making me only focus on his harsh words thrown at the guard who was on duty this morning.

If this would've been some kind of cartoon series, I would be able to see the smoke coming out of his ears, but thankfully in this scene I can only see his veins popping out, which is enough to make my soul tremble.

I stand idle for God knows how long, but Manik doesn't focus at his surroundings at all and keeps yelling at the guard all kind of profanities, making me annoyed because it's not the guard's fault that I ran away.

Once I've listened enough, I clear my throat, "Manik, stop."

Instantly all the voices die down and his neck snaps towards my way, making me shiver and close my eyes not wanting to meet his full of rage ones.

Soon enough, I hear some footsteps coming my way, but I keep my eyes closed, fearing the person in front of me.

Is he going to kill me now?

Will he do something to mom and dad?

No, I won't let him hurt them.

I gulp a few times, wanting him to speak, but he keeps quite, making his rapid breaths the only sound encircling us.

I debate wether to open my eyes or not a few times, before I finally open them when I feel his gaze moving from my face.

As soon as he's visible to me, I gasp at how close we're standing, but I refrain myself from any kind of act that could make things worse for me.

"Where did you find her?" His face is turned to the guy who saved me earlier, who unlike me looks completely calm.

"She was about to cross the yellow boundrie, but got trapped in one of the nets, and we rushed to see who was trying to do something like that, when we saw her." He signals me with his eyes while saying the last part making all pair of eyes glance my way, but that makes no difference to him as he continues, "When I took her down, she said she knows you, so I came with her. But if she's lieing than I can take her back to the general."

My nose flares with annoyance, and before I know words leave my mouth, "Listen, I'm a free person, I can do whatever I want, you're no one to decide for me-" Before I can pour everything, Manik puts a finger on my lips shutting me and his glare his enough to know I'm supposed to keep quite.

Silence falls soon after Manik is done sending me a glare, but that is broken by the guy as well, "Manik, you know we're not allowed to have them in this territory. Thankfully, I found her, and not- you know who."

As far as I know they're talking in English, then why in the hell am I not able to grasp what they're saying.

"I know you're right man, and I assure you I'll make sure she doesn't wander off again." They nod towards each other and that guy walks off, not before sending a salute with his two fingers towards Manik.

Once that guy is out of the door, Manik turns to me, "May I know why did you run away?"

C'mon Nandini, show him who you are.

"As I had said earlier, I can do whatever I want, you're no one to tell me anything." My voice comes out more high pitched than I intended, but it's good it does, this way he knows I'm not scared of him, even though I am.

He takes a deep inhale and his nose flares, but he says nothing and looks behind me.

He takes another deep breath along with closing and opening his eyes, before looking back at me, "You know what, Nandini, I was wrong. I was wrong when I convinced the Superiors to let you stay with me. I should've just listened to them and let them take you, but no, I fought with them for you."

He gets quite for a second before speaking again, "But I'm going to correct my mistake. I can't handle your fucking childlike attitude. I'm going to ask the Superiors to take you with them, and leave me in peace." With the last line, he makes it clear to me that there's no point to argue, but even if there was I wouldn't be able to, as I understood nothing of what he just said to me.

Who the hell are the Superiors now?

Before I can voice my question, he just gives me a look and goes upstairs, yelling at Maria to pack my things as I'm leaving soon.

So what do you think?

Who are the Superiors?
