Falling Star

The evening was bright and marvelous. There were stars in the sky sparkling brighter than ever. Hilal and Leon finished their photo shoot and was waiting for Joe to release them. Leon was leaning against the wall opposite to the washroom with one hand inside his pocket anxiously waiting for Joe to come out of that bathroom. Hilal was biting the nails of her right hand and looking straight at the closed washroom door. Leon's eyes were fixed on this beautiful girl and a slight smile went across his face. He could see her backside with her brown locks neatly kept on her shoulders. Suddenly his phone rang. Leon felt uneasy and wanted to stop the ringtone at any cost. There was nothing for him to feel this uneasy since it was just his phone ringing but still he did not like the way the silence broke. Hilal looked back for an instance and turned the next to continue with her nail biting. Leon slowly put the phone on his left ear and his face went stiff. 

'Mom, what is it? I said i'll be late.' Leon was a bit irritated as he already knew why his mom called. 'Yes, i know that but this late? This late, honey? You knew Elaina will be coming tonight and that too with her mum and dad. They can't wait for the entire night, can they darling?' his mother's voice went louder. 'Mom, i already said i don't like their purpose of coming home and i don't want to meet them like this. It's you who did not wish to listen' Leon was whispering fearing Hilal would hear him. Hilal already did here him go loud and intended to leave the room to give him space to talk freely. Leon tried to stop Hilal but couldn't as his mom was constantly over his attention. 'Leon, i don't want to listen to anything else. I want you home within 30 minutes. I can't keep Elaina and her parents waiting to embarrass them and ourselves as well. I'm hanging up now but i want you home before my next call' the line cut. 

Leon quickly put the phone inside his pocket and rushed outside to call Hilal. He found her standing on the balcony staring at the night sky. As soon as Leon was about to utter a word, Hilal said, 'It's a beautiful starry night, isn't it?' Leon went blank for a minute since he came from the backside and it was not possible for Hilal to see him. But still she understood that Leon came. He was surprised and extremely happy that he laughed out, a bit louder than usual. Hilal looked behind, hearing his semi-roar. 'Yes, yes it is. It is' Leon assured. 'Do you know if you wish upon a falling star, your wish comes true?' Hilal asked turning back to him again. 'Umm no i have never heard of it' Leon was confused. 'Let's try then' she proposed. 'Close your eyes and wish for the thing you want the most in life. Open them and if after that you see any star fall, your wish would come true' she explained excitedly. 'Alright haha let's try' he said. Both of them closed their eyes and wished for the things they craved. Together, they opened their eyes to see a star falling on the ground. 

'Great. Now our wishes would come true' Leon laughed. Hilal turned around with a smile on her face and started walking towards the main room where they were earlier waiting for Joe. 

'Hilal' called Leon with a soft tone. She turned. She looked amazing and her eyes dazzled. Leon couldn't speak for a moment but gathered himself at once. 

'What... did you wish for?' his eyes flashed with curiosity. 

'If you tell your wish aloud, you jinx it that instant. Falling stars don't fall often. I can't jinx a wish of my life,' Hilal softly showed Leon that she was a girl who wanted very few things but the things she wanted were the most precious things of her life. 

Slowly she walked inside. Leon stood still leaning against the balcony railing. He turned his face towards the sky and saw a star burning like a ball of fire. Stars are like 'desires'. Once they shine, the other moment they fall. The rest of the days, they are dead.
