Mike's POV

I was called into Head Quarters. I received a call and, to my surprise, they planned on keeping me on the case but on only one condition: I worked with Eleanor and her team. I knew Eleanor was an alias, but maybe finally I would learn her name today, since we would be working together.

At first, I was reluctant to, because I had always gone solo in the past. But, I decided I would have to if I wanted to stay on the case. Now, I was on my way to Head Quarters to meet with her team.

I made my way up the elevator and into a meeting room. As I walked through the doors, I was greeted by several people. Then, we all sat down at a table to converse about our plan.

"So, as you all know, we have been assigned to this case. We have found out it wasn't as small as we thought. Our code name for the case will be The Raven Case. This is for no specific reason, just to be secretive. Also, we will be working with another organization for this case. I know what you're thinking. We never do duo cases. We are usually competing against each other, but, this time, we will have to work together," Eleanor told her team.

"Did our boss agree on this?" A curly-haired guy asked.

"Yes, Joyce, the head of our corporation, came to an agreement with the CEO of his corporation, Ms. Nancy."

"Will we know each other's identities for this case?" A redhead asked.

"Yes, but, you must remember, we must be careful. There is a good chance we might be dabbling in espionage. I will present you all a file with your assignments and other important information."

She gave us all files. In there, were the team members' names. Each had their own file and general information on them.

"Burn all the personal files when you've finished studying them."

I flipped through, until I finally found her file. It read,"Jane Hopper." I knew Eleanor was an alias.

"Hello? Hello? New boy, are you day dreaming? Pay attention when I'm talking. Do you think you're too good for us?" A voice broke into my thoughts.

"Oh, uh, yes, I mean, no! Sorry."

We finished up the meeting and people began to leave. Jane approached me as I was packing up my bag.

"Hey, I hope you realize that the only reason you're in the upfront action with Maxine and I is because my boss made me put you there."

Then, Jane left the room. I felt kind of hurt. I don't know why she disliked me so much. I even saved her life, but she could care less.

I took the elevator down to the first level and began my walk home. As I continued down several blocks, I came across an alley way. Two guys came out. They were buff and sturdy, wearing all black. They were much bigger than me. They both wore masks. They circled me.

"Look, guys, I don't want any trouble. What do you want, money?"

"We don't need your money."

"Then what do you want?"

"Quick, take his bag."

"There's nothing valuable in there."

One guy came front on. I grabbed his fore arm and shoved him into the wall. The other came from behind. I blocked his punch and then threw him to the ground. He punched me in the face. I had a black eye. I punched him back, in self defense, as he tried to take another swing at me. He was knocked out cold. The other guy tried to come at me again. I elbowed him and stepped on his foot as he tried to reach for my bag. He grabbed my fore arms as I tried to take a swing at him. He had bad posture and I could easily get out of this hold. But, a third person came from behind me and swung a heavy object into the back of my knees. I think one of my legs was fractured. I was gripping onto the bag. I would not let them take this information.

"Come on, hand it over, before we do more damage," the third person said, a lenky guy in all black and a fedora.

I opened up my bag and took out the files. Before they could grab it, I took the top page out and shoved the paper in my mouth.

"You wouldn't..."

I swallowed.

"I did."

I tried to get up and run off with the files, but I couldn't go fast with a broken leg. They both stopped me, and tackled me to the ground, ceasing the rest of the files. They kicked me as I lie on the ground. I thought they would kill me, until, I heard shouting. The guys took off with my bag.

Someone ran into the alley way, but it was hard to tell who. My vision was blurred, and blood from my head covered one of my eyes. I felt blood coming out of my mouth. I had a black eye, a fractured leg, probably a broken rib, and many bruises.

"What happened?!" A female voice yelled.

She came closer and knelt down beside me.

"What did they do to you, Mike? What did they want?" It was Jane. Her voice was filled with worry. "Oh no, are you alive? You look horrible. Please be okay."

"I-I'm alive, don't worry, Boss," I chuckled. I coughed up some blood.

"I'm here to help, don't worry. What did they want?"

"I'm so sorry."

"Sorry for what?"

"They took the files, Jane."

"What?! But that held all of our personal information, and even some specifics about our plans! Our identities will be ruined!"

"I swallowed one of the files before they tackled me to the ground and kicked me."

"What?"

"It was your file. At least they know one less identity."

Then my eyelids were too heavy to keep open, and I knocked out.
