Jane's POV

It was my first vacation day in months. HQ was holding an important meeting without my team. They said to take a day off while they got things worked out.

It was raining outside. I put on a warm coat and a plaid scarf as I left my apartment. I made my way to the coffee shop downtown. I decided I would do some of my own digging on this case, so I brought my laptop bag along with me.

I waited in line and ordered a decaf latte. I took it with me and sat by a window. I pulled out my laptop and began doing some research.

After a few minutes, I took a moment to look out the window and admire the beautiful world outside. I loved rainy weather. The window pane was covered in little droplets.

I sipped my coffee and looked around the room. A guy walked in with dark hair and freckles. He wore a navy blue windbreaker and denim jeans. He looked familiar.

I watched as he ordered black coffee and a scone. He nonchalantly waited for his drink.

It looked like...Alexander.

We weren't supposed to know each other's identities, but it looked like I would know his soon. I doubted he would tell the barista an alias.

"One black coffee for Mike."

He went up thanking the barista and walked out the door with his drink.

I quickly packed my bag, grabbed my coffee, and followed him.

I carefully followed behind him a good distance. Suddenly, we came upon a crowd of people. I tried to find him, but I had lost him in the crowd.

I sighed and decided to turn around.

"Are you following me, Eleanor?" A familiar voice asked.

I almost jumped and turned around to find Alexander, or, Mike.

"Hello, Mike."

Suddenly, his face turned pale. He was shocked.

"Wait, uh, how do you, I-"

"I heard them call your name in the coffee shop," I laughed.

He let out a nervous laugh.

"Look, I'm sorry about yesterday. I didn't mean to step on your toes. I had no idea you were on that mission too."

"Hey, it's all good."

"I might get cut from the mission anyways, if it makes you feel any better."

"What, how come?" I accidentally sounded a little disappointed.

"I told you key information. I could very well be demoted."

"I'm sorry to hear that."

Both of us continued walking.

"Hey, what's your real name, Eleanor? It's only fair if you tell me."

"Life isn't fair," I said, speeding up.

"Okay, okay fine. Well, Eleanor, if I ever wanted to accidentally bump into you again, where might I find you?"

"You wish I'd tell you. Sorry Alex, but, I have to go," I said, walking away from him.

"It's Mike."

I just kept walking. Did I do the wrong thing? Oh well, only time would tell.
