"In nomine magni, dei nostri Satanas introibo ad altare, Domini Inferi," Sam repeats. Nothing happens.
"It didn't work," Lexxi says, about to put out the match she held in her hands, preparing to light the holy oil of the demon trap painted on the floor when the lights begin to flicker. Lucifer stands before Sam, Cas, and Lexxi.
"Lex, now!" Sam shouts, she drops the match and the demon trap burst into flames.
"Well, it's about time. I've been waiting. Couldn't find me the old fashion way huh?" Lucifer mocks. "Where's your brother Sammy?" Sam shifts his weight between his feet, Lex can see the anger building in his face.
"Sam, we have to do this now," Cas says. Lex steps forward, angel blade in hand.
"Manete!" Cas shouts over and over, holding Lucifer in place. Lex takes another step forward, she's at the edge of the demon trap, Sam takes his place next to her, vial in hand. Lucifer smiles menacingly at them. Lex raises her arm and lunges forward, slashing Lucifer's neck, a stream of glowing blue matter trickles from the gash in his neck, Sam collect it in the vial. With no time to react, Lucifer raises both his hands, sending Lex, Sam, and Cas backward. The demon trap is open, Lucifer steps out walking over to Sam who is beginning to stand up, Lucifer kicks him, taking the vial, and he's gone.
"Sam, are you alright?" Cas and Lex shout in unison, rushing towards Sam's side.
Sam and Cas look at each other smiling. "Why are you smiling, we lost Jack's grace, and Lucifer is gone," Lex shouts.
Sam pulls a small vial from his pocket, it's glowing a soft blue. "I knew we wouldn't be able to trap Lucifer long enough to kill him, but when Cas showed up I had an idea. I'm sorry we didn't tell you, I thought it would be better that way if something went wrong. We filled one vial with a bit of Cas's grace, not enough to weaken his powers, it will only take a little time for it to regenerate. When Lucifer broke free of the demon trap, I switched the vials, he took Cas's grace, we have Lucifer's grace, we can give Jack his powers back," Sam says excitedly. "Dean's deal with Michael is off." Suddenly they notice punding coming from the other side of the door. Sam walks over and unlocks the door. Dean, Jack, Mary, and John, rush into the dungeon. Dean sees the smudged demon trap on the floor.
"What did you do Sammy?" Dean says through clenched teeth. Sam says nothing, he just holds up the vial of grace before Dean. "That can't be what I think it is."
"Jack, " Sam says, holding the vile out, Jack steps forward and takes the vial, he turns it over in his hand, he looks at Sam, "Lucifer's grace...your grace." Jack opens the vial and slowly inhales the glowing blue matter. He looks between Sam, Dean, Cas, nothing happens, he begins to speak when his body tenses, his eyes glow, and he falls to the floor.
"Jack!" Sam shouts, rushing to his side, followed by Dean and Cas. Lexxi looks at Mary with a worried expression.
Jack's eyes flutter open, still glowing slightly, he stands up with help from Sam and Dean.
"Jack, how..how do you feel?" Cas asks.
"I..I feel...great," Jack says smiling, he raises his hand out in front of him, he snaps his wrist to the side, everyone turns as a chair smashes against the wall, falling to the floor in pieces. "My powers, they're back!"
Dean turns to Sam, "I know that look, but Dean, listen, with Jack's powers back, we don't need Michael to kill Lucifer, we will find him again, and we will find Michael, and end both of them." Sam says defensively. Dean looks between Sam, Cas, and Lexxi.
"You three could have been killed. Why do this alone?" Dean asks frustration in his voice.
"If something would have gone wrong, Jack needed you," Lex says, stepping in before Sam could speak, "We had an idea, we had to try even though we didn't know if it would work, but it did, sort of. Let's just take this win."
The next several weeks they are once again searching for Lucifer, knowing he's in a weakened state without his own grace. They've tried summoning him again, this time everyone standing by to take him down, but it fails. Rowena and Crowley have been offering their services, free of charge, they hate Lucifer as much as the Winchesters do. There's no sign of Michael either. Sam and Lexxi spend most days in the bunker searching for leads on either of the archangels, Mary and John have gone off to meet with the hunters from apocalypse world, where Mary spent most her time before she arrived at the bunker for Christmas. Dean, Cas, and Jack are in and out following leads on Lucifer. There have been a few cases, rogue werewolves, a small vampire den, a ghoul, that they've taken care of, but even Michael's new monsters have fallen off the grid. Radio silence.
"Dean, Cas, and Jack should be back tomorrow. Lead ran cold. Lucifer was definitely there, but he's gone...again," Sam says disappointedly.
"We'll find him, and Michael," Lex says reassuring Sam, "I'm gonna go for a walk.."
Sam looks at her, curious, she never goes for a walk this late. "Want some company?" he asks.
"Uhh...sure.."Lex responds. They head out of the bunker, it's dusk, the sun is beginning to set. Lex takes off over the hill, she found a nice trail leading to an overlook a few months ago. They walk in silence, Sam sits on an old bench while Lex continues on closer to the edge. She stands there for a while, shifting her weight between her feet. Sam watches her, knowing something is off. He stands up and walks over to her.
"Lex, is something wrong?" he asks softly, concern in his voice.
"What? No, it's just..today is a year since I was attacked since I've lost my sister, I haven't thought about her in so long with everything that's happened in the last few months. It feels like yesterday, but at the same time it feels like an eternity has passed." Lex said, staring out at the setting sun. Sam notices her blue eyes seemingly glow in the blood orange light the sun is casting. She sighs and wraps her arms around herself. Without thinking Sam removes his jacket and places it over her shoulders. She jumps, "uhh..thanks." There's a pause. "It never ends, does it? Have you ever been happy?" she turns to ask Sam.
"This life, there's always something around each corner. Someone always needs help, but that's the life we chose knowing there are few happy moments. They do come around, not often. We hunt literal demons and monsters, there's not much time for happy in that..." Sam says.
"Would you change it if you could? Pick a different life I mean?" Lexx asks Sam.
"No. I don't think I would," Sam replies. Lexxi sighs. "Do you regret staying?" he asks.
"No, I couldn't imagine life any other way now," she says, smiling softly at Sam. "Plus who would keep you guys out of trouble," she jokes nudging Sam with her shoulder. He laughs and wraps his arms around Lex's shoulders. She leans into him, feeling the warmth of his body against the cool night air. She rests her head on his chest and they watch the sunset.
"Lex?" Sam whispers, Lexxi looks up, their eyes lock, Sam begins to lean down.
"We should probably get back to the bunker," Lex says suddenly, pulling out of Sam's embrace. He runs his hand through his hair.
"Uhh, yeah. It...It's getting late..." he mutters. They walk back to the bunker in awkward silence.
"What was I thinking?" Sam scolds himself in his head. They get back to the bunker and head to their rooms, stopping at Lex's first.
"Well...uh..goodnight," Sam says looking at the ground, he turns to walk away.
"Sam," Lex says, Sam turns around quickly, raising his head to look at Lex. "Thanks for letting me borrow your jacket," she says shyly, holding out his jacket with one hand. He takes the jacket, disappointment crosses his face. "Goodnight."
