Chapter 2, Text Messages

*Kayla's POV*

I was on my way to Sheila's house to pick her up to go to work. I parked outside Sheila's house and beeped the horn to let her know that I'm outside waiting for her. I let out a sigh. All I could think about is Katherine and the way she has been acting to everyone. Ever since Mom and Dad got a divorce, she doing bad things, such as joining gangs. I feel bad for mom and Ian. Ian is such an amazing step dad and Lauren, Megan and Clara are amazing step sisters. Mom and Dad's marriage was going rocky near the end but they are still good friends. We knew they were going to split up eventually. Dad has always been there for me, Frankie, Katherine and our older brother John.

My phone beeped. I took my phone and looked at it. It was a message from Unknown. I opened the message and looked at it.

Hello Kayla, I know where you work and I can't wait to see you ;) xx-Unknown

I was confused. I was trying to think who do I know that doesn't have my number and just sent me this text. I looked through my contacts and saw that everyone I know has my number. I kept looking at the message. I heard the passenger car door open. I jumped and screamed "Jesus!". It was Sheila. She jumped too. "Whoa! Girl calm down it's just me!" She said. I sighed and placed my hand on my chest. "Sorry Sheila" I said. She got in and closed the door. "Are you alright?" Sheila asked. "I'm fine, just going through family issues again" I said. "Katherine?" Sheila said to no surprise from her. "Yep! And I got this message from this unknown" I said. "Really? Let me have a look at it" Sheila said holding out her hand. I gave her my phone and showed her the message. Sheila looked confused as I was. "This person will be at work today?" She said. I was a little nervous about going into work now. "Look, we'll find out when we get to work" Sheila said. I nodded and put my phone away and drove away from Sheila's house.

We arrived at work. Working long hours at a Bar and Restaurant isn't so bad once your kept busy and meet friendly people. Sheila and I wrapped the aprons around our waist and began to do our work. The two chefs in the kitchen, Brittany and Hannah saw me. "Hey Brittany, hey Hannah" I greeted them with a smile. "Hey Kayla" Brittany said. "Have you told your Mom and Ian about moving out yet?" Hannah asked. "I've told Ian, he says it's a great idea, I'm sure my mom wouldn't mind" I said. Shannon, my boss, arrived in. "Good morning girlies" She said. "Good morning Shannon" I said. "We have a busy day today guys so let's get to work" Shannon said with a smile. We all went to work.

About 4 hours into work, Sheila, Trina, Desriee and I were serving tables. I walked into the bar to get the drinks. A man around his mid 50's walked into the bar. He always comes here, every single day, same time and leaves at the same time at night. I don't know what's his name is but he's always staring at me, which makes me feel uncomfortable while working. I got the drinks and put them on the tray. I walked out of the bar with the guy staring at me. I took a deep breath and shook my head. The man is very strange. I decided to brush it off. I walked over to table 15. "Here you all go, here are your drinks" I said giving them their drinks. I smiled at them.

One girl looked at me. "Kayla?" she said surprised. I looked confused. "Kayla! It is you!" Another girl said. "It's been so long since we seen you" the third girl said. I was more confused now but scared. What if one of them sent me that message?. "I'm sorry, who are you?" I asked. "Kayla, it's me Na'tava" the first girl said. "And Haley" the second girl said. "And Angie" the third girl said. The names sounded familiar. "Remember us? We played a prank on one of the teachers by putting super glue in his chair" Na'tava said. Then it clicked to me. Na'tava, Haley and Angie are old high school friends of mine, Destinee and Mhali. I remember who they are now. "Oh my god! Girls I remember now! I can't believe you girls are here!" I said. They all laughed. "How have you all been, it's been so long since I seen you" I said. "We've been great! We've been doing a lot of traveling but we're back to go to college which is about 15 minutes away from here" Angie said. "That's where Destinee and Mhali go to college! They'll be here later on" I said. The three girls were surprised. "We never saw them in college, i can't wait to see them!" Haley said getting excited. We all laughed. "Kayla, can you come here for a second?" Maddie, one of the ladies behind the bar said. "I better get going, I'll talk to you later" I said. They all waved.

I walked back to the bar. "What's wrong Maddie?" I asked. She pulled me more to the side. "See that man down there?" She asked. I looked at the man, who was actually, the man who won't stop staring at me. "Yeah, what about him?" I asked. "Sheila told all of us about the message you got from an anonymous person" Maddie said. "Yeah I did" I said. "He's after telling Erin and I that he knows who sent the message but he won't tell us who" Maddie said. My stomach started turning. I looked at the man again who was now looking down at Maddie and I. I turned away quickly. "He's been making me feel uncomfortable, ever since I started working here" I said. Maddie was about to speak until Shannon came over. "Is there something wrong girls?" Shannon asked. "That guy down at the other end of the bar keeps staring at me and it's making me feel uncomfortable" I said. Shannon looked at the man. "Don't worry, we are fully aware of that but there is security watching him" she said. I sighed. I felt a little bit better but not better enough to keep focus on work.

The whole day went by slowly. Thankfully I'm nearly finished work. The man was still at the bar drinking. He hasn't kept his eyes off me. Destinee and Mhali came in. "Hey girlie" Mhali said. "Hey girls, how was college?" I asked. "Same as everyday" Destinee said rolling her eyes. I laughed. I looked at the time, it's was time to go home. "Finally, I'm finished" I said. "We'll come on girl! Do you want to look for a new house?" Mhali asked. "Of course I do, just let me check out and I'm good to go" I said. I rushed into the back room and grabbed my bag and signed out. I walked back out to Destinee and Mhali. The man at the bar was now looking at us. "Let's get out of here" I said pushing the two of them out. We walked out of the bar. "We have to check on line to see what houses are on sale" I said. "We'll go back to my house and we'll figure out what houses to find" Mhali said. "I'll drive" I said. "It is your car Kayla" Destinee laughed. We all laughed.

We got into the car. My phone beeped again. It was from Unknown again.

You finished work already? Where are you going?-Unknown

Ok, maybe it isn't Na'tava, Haley or Angie that sent me a text this morning and texting me now. This freaked me out a little more. "Kayla are you alright?" Destinee asked. I couldn't keep this from my two best friends. "Ok, I got a text this morning by anonymous saying that they know where I work and they couldn't wait to see me, now this person texted me again asking me where am I going" I said. Destinee and Mhali were a little freaked out. "Kayla, you have to tell you mom and Ian" Mhali said. "No way! I don't want to worry them, besides they are under pressure with Katherine"I said putting the phone down, sighing and rubbing my head.

I couldn't let Mom and Ian know about this, besides I'm going to ignore it. I have better things to do. "What wrong with Katherine this time?" Destinee asked. "She came in from a party this morning before we left and she was drunk and she was giving Ian a hard time and for some reason she hates me more as well" I said. Destinee and Mhali rolled their eyes. "Look, let's just put this aside for a while, back to my house and search for a perfect house for you" Mhali said. I smiled. I started to drive away from work. My phone beeped again. "Do you want us to read that message?" Destinee asked. "Nah, wait until we get to Mhali's house and we'll read the message" I said keeping my eye on the road. For the whole drive to Mhali's House, I was little worried that someone has been following us. I parked outside Mhali's house. All three of us got out of the car. I got my phone. I closed the door and locked the car. I walked around to Mhali and Destinee. "Ok, let's look at this message now" I said. We all looked at my phone. It was from anonymous again. Destinee and Mhali grabbed both of my arms because they were worried about this message. I opened the message. When the message finally opened, it says...
