Song~ Say Something, by A GREAT BIG WORLD

*   *   *

Say something, I'm giving up on you

I'll be the one, if you want me too

Anywhere I would've followed you

Say something, I'm giving up on you

She never thought she would ever be in the situation she was in now, staring blankly and sorrowfully at the trajedy before her.

He didn't deserve this. After all he'd done, this was how fate ended his life?

It wasn't fair.

Then again, life never was. She knew that.

But knowing something and accepting it were entirely different matters.

She wasn't mad at him, for the choices he made. She knew that he had done what he felt was right.

And in a way, he was right. They wouldn't have won without him; without what he had so bravely sacrificied to bring the good back into the world, and send evil to the depths of Tartarus.

But part of her wondered, if there was a way that he could have survived through it all. What if there was another way?

She knew there wasn't, but denial wouldn't allow her mind to see the horrible truth.

She was vaguely aware of her friends around her, silently mourning, but she gave them no reaction or words.

They didn't need any sort of sign to know she was in despair.

Kneeling over his body, she silently wept. He had saved the world, but what he hadn't realized was that he was her world. Now he was gone.

Whispering ever so quietly, all she could manage to say was, 'Say something. Please, Seaweed Brain. Say something.'

She didn't want to give up on a chance that he could come back to her; that his sea-green eyes would open again; that she would see his smile again. She didn't want to give up on him; to give up on hope.

But it was hopeless- there was no hope to give up.

He was an idiot, thinking he could take on Mother Earth by himself; thinking that he could protect his friends and still save the world.

Yes, he was an idiot, but she would've followed him into whatever insane plan his kelp-filled brain was thinking up; if only she had known.

But no, he had to slip away secretely while she was busy fighting on the battlefield. He had to let his loyalty take him over.

And this time, his fatal flaw really was fatal.

'Say something, Percy.' She murmured quietly, her body racked with sobs. 'Please. Just... wake up. Give me some sign. Say something.'

And I am feeling so small

It was over my head

I know nothing at all

Cries of the wounded and shouts of relief of those who survived surrounded her, making her feel so small.

Her boyfriend was just one death out of many; just one of the numerous lives snuffed out.

The whole situation brought back memories, back to the second Titan War. She recalled what Percy had told her after Beckendorf had died.

Just one death out of thousands...
