Tristan McLean's POV (Mortal- Piper's Dad)

Being an actor had its ups and downs.

Now, don't get the wrong idea; Tristan McLean loved his job. Getting paid for doing something he enjoyed was his dream.

But so was starting a family.

Both dreams had come true for Tristan, who was lucky enough to have a promising career, and a wonderful daughter.

Yet, as close as the two of them were, Tristan felt that he barely had anytime to simply talk to his daughter, let alone get to know the amazing young lady she had grown up to be.

It saddened Tristan when he realized Piper's friends and boyfriend knew more about her than her own father did.

That was one of the reasons Tristan had scheduled a weekend, free of work, just for the two of them.

Piper lived in New York with her friends at a summer camp (Piper claimed it was a special camp for kids with ADHD and dyslexia), so she was flying to California for the weekend.

Tristan waited at the airport for her plane to land. He watched anxiously as the crowd of people who were on board the same flight as Piper pushed out the doors, looking around for friends and family.

Tristan couldn't help but smile as families were reunited, and friends enveloped each other in a huge hug, but none of that mattered when his daughter stepped through the doorway.

Piper had her choppy, medium-brown hair in a braid that rested against her shoulder, a red feather woven in. She wore a simple orange tank top and jean shorts, along with a pair of flip flops that, from the looks of them, had been worn numerous times. A bead necklace hung around her neck.

Tristan caught Piper's eyes, and Piper grinned, a smile so wide, it was contagious.

A smile on his own face, Tristan opened his arms, and Piper rushed into them, hugging him tight.

Releasing his daughter, Tristan asked, 'You ready to go?'

Piper smiled, 'Dad, you don't have to even ask. I've been looking forward to this weekend all week.'

Tristan gave a small laugh, 'Well, in that case, we'd better not keep the fun waiting. Come on, the car's out front.'

Piper grabbed her small suitcase and followed Tristan out the front doors of the bustling airport.

As they approached the teal-colored car, Tristan noticed Piper frown, looking confused.

'Dad... where's Matt?'

Tristan chuckled, 'I've decided to give out chauffeur the day- er, weekend- off. He's deserved it.' Tristan glanced at his daughter as he slid into the driver's seat, watching as she placed her bag in the trunk before sliding into the passenger seat. 'Besides... I figured you deserved a "fame-free" weekend.'

Piper laughed, but she had a look of disbelieving on her face. 'A "fame-free" weekend? Is that possible for you?'

Tristan grinned. 'Funny.' He looked at his daughter seriously. 'Piper, anything you want, I'll find a way to make it possible. I know it was hard for you to grow up in the middle of fame, and I know I haven't exactly been the best father, but believe me when I say I've changed.'
